  1. 1. Loyal Speed Adaptation Speed limitation by means of an active accelerator and its possible impacts in built-up areas

    Author : Sverker Almqvist; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active accelerator; LSA; speed; speed reduction; driver behaviour; traffic safety; ISA; Teknik; Technological sciences; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik;

    Abstract : Traditional measures for improved traffic safety need to be complemented by modern technologies in the struggle to reduce the consequences of traffic accidents all over the world. This thesis introduces the Loyal Speed Adaptation (LSA) function based on recent developments in the area of Intelligent Transport Sys-tems to support the vehicle drivers in not using inappropriate or excessive speeds, which have been found to be an important factor for causing serious and fatal accidents. 2. 2. Choice Blindness: The Incongruence of Intention, Action and Introspection

    Author : Petter Johansson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psykologi; Psychology; Filosofi; Philosophy; latent semantic analysis LSA ; intentional stance; folk psychology; change blindness; verbal report; self-knowledge; extrospection; introspection; action; Choice blindness; intention;

    Abstract : This thesis is an empirical and theoretical exploration of the surprising finding that people often may fail to notice dramatic mismatches between what they want and what they get, a phenomenon my collaborators and I have named choice blindness. The thesis consists of four co-authored papers, dealing with different aspects of the phenomenon. READ MORE

  3. 3. Autobiographical Memory : Depending on sensory retrieval cue and gender

    Author : Kristina Petersén Karlsson; Fredrik Jönsson; Johan Willander; Sverker Sikström; Jonathan Koppel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; autobiographical memory; sensory retrieval cues; age distribution; phenomenological ratings; latent semantic analysis LSA ; linguistic inquiry word count LIWC ; gender differences; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : In my thesis I raised two questions: Does autobiographical memory differ i) depending on the sensory retrieval cue (Study I and II)? and ii) depending on gender (Study III)?Concerning retrieval cues, three unimodal cues (i.e., photographs, naturalistic sounds and odors) and one multimodal cue (i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Turbulent flows over permissive boundaries and porous walls

    Author : Seyed Morteza Habibi Khorasani; Shervin Bagheri; Geert Brethouwer; Alfredo Soldati; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Direct numerical simulations; wall-bounded turbulence; flow control; porous walls; heat transfer; Direkta numeriska simuleringar; väggbunden turbulens; flödeskontroll; porösa väggar; värmeöverföring; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how in wall-bounded turbulent flows changes to the wall can induce changes in the flow. To this end, we investigate the use of wall boundary conditions meant to mimic the effect of textured surfaces. READ MORE

  5. 5. Archaeological and Historical Reconstructions of the Foraging and Farming Communities of the Lower Zambezi : From the mid Holocene to the second Millennium AD

    Abstract : In this thesis I combine new archaeological surveys and excavations together with the historical and ethnographic sources, to construct a long term settlement history and historical ecology of the lower Zambezi River valley and delta region, in Mozambique. The evidence presented indicates that people have settled in the area since the Late Stone Age, in total eight new archaeological sites have been located in archaeological surveys. READ MORE
