  1. 1. Utilisation of fibre-rich feedstuffs for pigs in Vietnam

    Author : Tran Thi Bich Ngoc; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the chemical composition and water holding capacity (WHC) of fibrous feeds and evaluates the effects of fibre level, fibre source, particle size and enzyme supplementation on the digestibility, performance, total tract mean retention time (MRT), as well as gut development, morphology, environment and microflora of pigs. The content (g/kg dry matter, DM) of crude protein, ether extract, starch, total sugars and non-starch polysaccharides was found to vary between feedstuffs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Light environments for dairy cows : impact of light intensity, spectrum and uniformity

    Author : Sofia Lindkvist; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Light can be used as a management tool to increase milk yield in dairy cows and improve the working conditions for barn staff. It is known that a long day photoperiod, with 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness, can increase milk yield in an ongoing lactation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Impact of bacteria and yeast with probiotic properties on performance, digestibility, health status and gut environment of growing pigs in Vietnam

    Author : Hoang Huong Giang; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to evaluate the effects of six lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains and Bacillus subtilis H4, Saccharomyces boulardii Sb, and a microbial enzyme mixture, supplemented to basal diets on the performance, diet digestibility, health status, and gut environment of growing pigs under Vietnamese conditions. The results showed that three different 3-strain-LAB complexes, comprising combinations of Enterococcus faecium 6H2, Lactobacillus acidophilus C3, Pediococcus pentosaceus D7, L. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interactions between dietary chicory, gut microbiota and immune responses

    Author : Haoyu Liu; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis provides a better understanding of interactions between diet, gut microbiota, and immune responses to a specific dietary fiber source, chicory (Cichorium intybus L). This was achieved by examining the impact of chicory fiber on animal performance, digestibility, gut development, commensal bacteria community structure in small and large intestine, and follow-up reactions with specific immune components, cytoprotective heat shock protein (HSP) 27 and 72, in vivo and in vitro. 5. 5. Lactic acid bacteria fermentations in oat-based suspensions

    Author : Olof MÃ¥rtensson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; beta-glucans; probiotics; prebiotics; bacterial survival; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; oats; ropiness; lactic acid bacteria; ropy;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the fermentation characteristics of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in oat-based suspensions, with formulation work of fermented products based on oat and with nutritional studies of these products. Changes in structure in terms of viscosity and ropiness were studied when exopolysaccharide (EPS)-producing LAB strains, namely, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. READ MORE
