  1. 21. Towards quantitative single cell analysis using optical tweezers and microfluidics

    Author : Emma Eriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical tweezers; holographic optical tweezers; microfluidics; lab-on-a-chip; fluorescence microscopy; spatial light modulator; single cell analysis; quantitative systems biology; GFP; Saccharomyces cerevisiae;

    Abstract : Experiments on single cells have the potential to uncover information that would not be possible to obtain with traditional biological techniques, which only reflect the average behavior of a population of cells. In the averaging process, information regarding heterogeneity and cellular dynamics, that may give rise to a nondeterministic behavior at the population level, is lost. READ MORE

  2. 22. Acoustic manipulation of cells and microbeads in droplet microfluidics

    Author : Anna Fornell; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustophoresis; Droplet microfluidics; Enrichment; Lab-on-a-chip; Particle manipulation; Ultrasound;

    Abstract : Droplet microfluidics has emerged as a promising platform for miniaturisation of biological assays on-chip. In droplet microfluidics small water droplets (nL-pL) surrounded by an immiscible carrier oil are generated at high throughput. READ MORE

  3. 23. Digital Electrical DNA Sensing

    Author : Maoxiang Guo; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Fredrik Westerlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : DNA detection; thiol-ene-epoxy; rolling circle amplification; digital measurement; DNA stretching; microwell-array; gold nanowires; electrical measurement; specificity; limit of detection; liquid storage; disease diagnosis; lab-on-a-chip; point-of-care.;

    Abstract : Molecule detection is a workhorse in life sciences and medicine, for example in cancer diagnosis and virus and bacterial detection. DNA analysis can provide vital information about the state of a host organism and its medical and health condition. READ MORE

  4. 24. Integrated Optical Slot-Waveguide Ring Resonator Sensor Arrays for Lab-on-Chip Applications

    Author : Kristinn Björgvin Gylfason; Göran Stemme; Hans Sohlström; Peter Bienstman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biosensor; label-free biosensing; ring resonator; optical waveguide; lab-on-a-chip; Electronic measurement and instrumentation; Elektronisk mät- och apparatteknik; Photonics; Fotonik;

    Abstract : This thesis treats the development of an integrated optical sensor array. The sensors are slot-waveguide ring resonators, integrated with on-chip surface grating couplers and light splitters, for alignment tolerant, real-time, refractive index sensing, and label-free biosensing. 5. 25. Acoustic Trapping in Biomedical Research

    Author : Björn Hammarström; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; Ultrasound; Acoustic Trapping; Lab-on-a-Chip; Mass Spectrometry;

    Abstract : Herein a method that uses acoustically resonating glass capillaries and enables non-contact capture of micron-sized bioparticles, i.e. acoustic trapping, is described. A miniaturized ultrasonic transducer is used to locally actuate a cross-sectional resonance in the capillary. READ MORE
