    Abstract : Concerns regarding environmental issues have led to increasing efforts for investigating sustainable production routes for the future industry that is based on renewable resources. Among the biobased chemicals, the C3-chemicals 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde (3-HPA), 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) and 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), have been identified as top candidates for the chemical industry. 3. 3. Antibiotic resistance in Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactobacillus plantarum

    University dissertation from Division of Biotechnology, Lund University

    Author : Maria Egervärn; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) may act as reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes that can be transferred via the food chain or within the gastrointestinal tract to pathogenic bacteria. This thesis provides data required for assessing the potential risk of using antibiotic resistant strains of the LAB species Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactobacillus plantarum as food processing aids or probiotics. 4. 4. Lactobacillus characterization and effects on oral biofilm composition

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Author : Nelly Romani Vestman; Umeå universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lactobacillus; L. gasseri; probiotic traits; oral biofilm; breastfeeding; oral microbiota; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : The human body is home for millions of bacteria. The largest microbial community is located in the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract, including the oral cavity with >700 identified taxa. Lactobacillus, which is normal inhabitant of the GI tract, contributes to health by possible biofilm and immune modulation. READ MORE

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in English Since the onset of the 20th century, human society has been using non-renewable resources, mainly oil, for the production of fuels and chemicals that are now an integral part of our everyday life. In the last few decades however, concerns regarding environmental effects, geopolitical issues and the eventual depletion of oil have led to us re-evaluating our dependency on this resource. READ MORE
