  1. 21. Parameters influencing inclusion compositions in Al-killed steel melts during a secondary refining process

    Author : Takanori Yoshioka; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Joohyun Park; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusion; ladle furnace; RH; thermodynamics; contact angle; Al2O3; MgO•Al2O3 spinel; calcium aluminate; CaS.;

    Abstract :      This study was carried out to clarify the factors influencing the evolution of inclusions in Al-killed steel melts during a secondary refining process. First, a case-hardening steel was the subject of study to understand the factors influencing the inclusion compositions in the steel melt. READ MORE

  2. 22. Solubility of hydrogen in slags and its impact on ladle refining

    Author : Jenny Hurtig; Sichen Du; Seppo Louhenkilpi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In the present thesis a study of the mechanisms of hydrogen control pickup during ladle treatment was undertaken. Previous studies showed that the presence of hydroxyl ions in the ladle slag resulteds in hydrogen transfer from the slag back into the steel bath. READ MORE

  3. 23. Solubility of hydrogen in slags and its impact on ladle refining

    Author : Jenny Brandberg; Du Sichen; Mia Almcrantz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The aim of the present work was to clarify the mechanisms of hydrogen removal during vacuum degassing. The main reason for this was because the primary source of hydrogen pick-up in steel-making is the moisture in the furnace atmosphere and the raw material charged into the ladle furnace. READ MORE

  4. 24. Three Dimensional Determinations of Inclusions in Ferroalloys and Steel Samples

    Author : Yanyan Bi; Andrey Karasev; Chris Pistorius; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Three dimensional; Ferroalloy; Inclusion; Spinel inclusion; T hermodynamic calculation; REM clusters; Formation mechanism; Statistical analysis; Maximum size;

    Abstract : As the requirements on material properties increase, there has been a demand on an additional knowledge on the effect of impurities in the ferroalloyson the steel cleanness. Thus, the number, morphology, size and composition of inclusions in sixdifferent ferroalloys (FeTi, FeNb, FeSi,SiMn, LC and HC FeCr) were investigatedin this study. READ MORE

  5. 25. Formation of Inclusions and their Development during Secondary Steelmaking

    Author : Mikael Thunman; Du Sichen; Piotr Scheller; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Metallurgical manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Al–O relations in iron were investigated. Pure iron with varying Al content was equilibrated at 1873 K. The oxygen content of iron with higher Al content than 1.0 mass % was found to be much lower than previous works, while the oxygen content for Al content less than 1 mass% was found to be slightly higher.
