  1. 1. Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron: Influences of Microstructure on the Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron

    Author : Daniel Holmgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EBSD; Laser Flash Technique; Modelling; Spheroidal Graphite; Lamellar Graphite; Primary Austenite; Compacted Graphite; Pearlite; Ferrite; Thermal Conductivity;

    Abstract : The thermal transport properties of cast iron are important in high temperature applications,where the temperatures should be kept low and the thermal gradients within the componentsmall. Dimensional and microstructural changes, thermally induced stresses and even failuremight be catastrophic consequences of intense and/or unevenly distributed temperatures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tribological and Mechanical Behaviour of Lamellar and Compacted Graphite Irons in Engine Applications

    Author : Rohollah Ghasemi; Anders Professor; Lennart Assistance professor; Bengt-Göran Rosén; Anders Jarfors; Lennart Elmquist; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sliding wear; abrasive wear; graphite lubricating performance; matrix deformation; lamellar graphite iron; high-Si compacted graphite iron;

    Abstract : There has been much discussion about the beneficial uses of lamellar graphite iron in piston rings–cylinder liner systems, where a good combinations of both thermal and tribological properties are essential. The excellent tribological performance of lamellar iron under such sliding conditions is principally associated with lubrication behaviour of the graphite particles which are distributed as lamellas throughout the matrix. 3. 3. Dendritic morphology and ultimate tensile strength of pearlitic lamellar graphite iron

    Author : Vasilios Fourlakidis; Attila Diószegi; Carlos A. Silva Ribeiro; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lamellar graphite iron; Primary austenite dendrite; Ultimate tensile strength; Microstructure model;

    Abstract : The continued development, of cylinder blocks and cylinder heads for heavy truck engines that are made of lamellar graphite iron (LGI) is focused on achieving high ultimate tensile strength (UTS) whilst conforming to environmental regulations. The purpose of this work is to further improve the tensile strength as well as the predictive engineering tools for optimization of LGI aimed to enhance the efforts for producing lighter and sustainable components without sacrificing performance. 4. 4. Morphological characterization of primary austenite in cast iron

    Author : Juan Carlos Hernando; Attila Diószegi; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lamellar Graphite Iron; Solidification; Primary Austenite; Microstructure Evolution; Dendritic coarsening; Compacted Graphite Iron; Magnesium Fading; Nodularity;

    Abstract : Automotive industry products portfolio includes a wide variety of complex‐shaped cast iron products, such as truck engine components, that need to withstand a constant trend of higher demands, especially urged by stricter environmental regulations on emissions. Combined with this continued demand on properties improvement, cast iron industry faces a process problem related to the lack of understanding of solidification and mechanisms behind defect formation.
