  1. 1. Land-use and land-cover dynamics and rural livelihood perspectives, in the semi-arid areas of Central Rift Valley of Ethiopia

    Author : Efrem Garedew; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Global environmental changes in climate, land-use and bio-diversity are increasingly on top of scientific and political agenda. The impacts of climate change are manifested on all dimensions of food security: availability, accessibility, utilization and stability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Monitoring biodiversity in cultural landscapes: development of remote sensing- and GIS-based methods

    Author : Jonas Dalmayne; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : Remote sensing; statistical modeling; spatial scales; partial least squares; support vector machines; grazed grasslands; LULC; HySpex; Worldview-2; Landsat; heterogeneity; landscape complexity; plant species diversity;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I explore the relationships between structural and compositional landscape properties, and species diversity, using remotely sensed data on a variety of spatial scales. The thesis shows that increased landscape heterogeneity, measured using environmental and spectral variables that were used both separately and combined, is generally positively related to plant species richness. 3. 3. Remote Sensing of Urbanization and Environmental Impacts

    Author : Jan Haas; Yifang Ban; Costas Cartalis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Remote Sensing; Urbanization; Land Use Land Cover LULC ; Environmental Impact; Landscape Metrics; Ecosystem Services; Geodesy and Geoinformatics; Geodesi och geoinformatik;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to establish analytical frameworks to map urban growth patterns with spaceborne remote sensing data and to evaluate environmental impacts through Landscape Metrics and Ecosystem Services. Urbanization patterns at regional scale were evaluated in China's largest urban agglomerations and at metropolitan scale in Shanghai, Stockholm and Beijing using medium resolution optical satellite data. 4. 4. Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment to pollution in Different Soil and Rock Materials

    Author : Twana Abdullah; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Jan Laue; Sabbar Alqaisi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwater; Vulnerability; DRASTIC; VLDA; Modification; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The augmentation of human population regularly corresponds with change in the land cover, including expansion of urban areas, which imposes increasing the available amount of domestic and drinking water. The study area, Halabja-Saidsadiq Basin, is situated in the Northeast of Iraq and is one of the major groundwater sources of the region. READ MORE
