  1. 16. On Uncertainty and Data Worth in Decision Analysis for Contaminated Land

    Author : Pär-Erik Back; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty; decision analysis; risk; sampling; data worth; soil sampling; contaminated land;

    Abstract : Contaminated soil and groundwater is a problem that has received increased attention in the last decade. Decision-making about investigation strategies, protective actions, and remedial actions is based on sparse and uncertain information, primarily data of contaminant concentrations and geological information. 2. 17. Data preparation, hydrodynamic and contaminant transport shallow-water simulations of Lake Victoria

    Author : Seema Paul; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Jesper Oppelstrup; Roger Thunvik; Felix Mtalo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lake bathymetry model; Steady-state analysis; Numerical model validation; Lake water balance; Correlation and seasonal variations; Solute transport; Vattendjupskarta; Validering av numerisk modell; Vattenbalans; Korrelationer och säsongs-variation; Transport av lösliga ämnen; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : This study explores shallow lake numerical hydrodynamic processes that support model development and validation, extreme events and effects of water circulation in Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world, and the largest in East Africa. READ MORE

    Abstract : Throughout history, major rivers and shared water bodies have allowed civilizations to flourish, and the effective management of shared water bodies has always been a priority for societies and nations. Today, about 40% of the world’s population lives in proximity to the 286 transboundary river and lake basins that supply 60% of the world’s freshwater flows and make up about half of the Earth’s land area. 4. 19. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location

    Author : Imran Ali Jamali; Bo Olofsson; Stephen Foster; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Subsurface dams; Groundwater; GIS; Regolith thickness; Groundwater; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam. 5. 20. Resource and Environmental Impacts of Resource-Efficiency Measures Applied to Electronic Products

    Author : Hampus André; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scarce metals; life cycle assessment; resource-efficiency; electronic products; resource depletion; circular economy; metal resource use;

    Abstract : Natural resources such as ecosystems, land, water and metals underpin the functioning of economies and human well-being, and are becoming increasingly scarce due to growth in population and affluence. Metals are increasingly demanded for their specific properties as modern technology develops. READ MORE
