  2. 2. Remote Sensing of Forest Decline in the Czech Republic

    Author : Jonas Ardö; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Czech Republic; neural networks; sulphur dioxide; air pollution; Norway spruce; deforestation; forest decline; GIS; spectral characteristics; Remote sensing; Landsat; Ore Mountains; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the localisation and quantification of deforestation and forest damage in Norway spruce forests in northern Czech Republic using Landsat data. Severe defoliation increases the spectral reflectance in all wavelength bands, especially in the mid infrared region. READ MORE

    Abstract : Urbanization is one of the great challenges in the 21st century. Despite being an engine for the global economy, urban areas consume 78% of World's energy and emit more than 60% of greenhouse gas emission. Sub-SaharanAfrican cities, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spectral signature measurements and image processing for geological remote sensing

    Author : Kjell Wester; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : This work focuses on (i) spectral signatures of rocks and lichens, and on the use of satellite images for (ii) survey mapping of areas dominated by exposed bedrock, (iii) bedrock mapping and mineral prospecting.(i) Laboratory measurements demonstrate that a lichen cover can significantly mask the spectral reflectance of rocks. 5. 5. Integration of remote sensing and ancillary data for geographical analysis and risk assessment of forest regeneration failures

    Author : Maj-Liz Nordberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The spatial distribution and size of forest regeneration areas are the basis for an analysis of where climatically unfavourable sites for forest regeneration are likely to occur if the area is clear felled. Knowledge about thermal variations is of interest in forestry, as avoidance of surface temperature extremes is important to regeneration success. READ MORE
