  1. 1. Fragmented landscapes : Assessment and communication of landscape connectivity in human-dominated landscapes

    Author : Arvid Bergsten; Örjan Bodin; Bo Ebenman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fragmentation; Connectivity; Network; Spatial; Landscape; Dispersal; Planning; Social-Ecological; Scale; IIC; STS; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis summarizes the first half of my PhD on the theme of management of fragmented landscapes. The thesis applies – and reflects on the use of – network analysis of connectivity in relation to landscape planning. READ MORE

    Abstract : Land use change constitutes a primary driving force in shaping social-ecological systems world wide, and its effects reach far beyond the directly impacted areas. Graph based landscape ecological tools have become established as a promising way to efficiently explore and analyze the complex, spatial systems dynamics of ecological networks in physical landscapes. 3. 3. Biological diversity values in semi-natural grasslands : indicators, landscape context and restoration

    Author : Mathias Öster; Ove Eriksson; Martin Zobel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; connectivity; Hygrocybe; indicators; landscape history; plants; pollen limitation; species-area effects; surrogate species; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Semi-natural grasslands, which are a declining and fragmented habitat in Europe, contain a high biodiversity, and are therefore of interest to conservation. This thesis examines how plant diversity is influenced by the landscape context, and how plant and fungal diversity can be targeted by practical conservation using indicator species and congruence between species groups. 4. 4. Seed mobility and connectivity in changing rural landscapes

    Author : Alistair G. Auffret; Sara Cousins; Robin Pakeman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Conservation; Functional connectivity; Historical ecology; Human-mediated dispersal; Invasive species; Landscape Ecology; Long-distance dispersal; Restoration; Seed bank; Seed dispersal; Seed rain; Structural connectivity; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The success or failure of many organisms to respond to the challenges of habitat destruction and a warming climate lies in the ability of plant species to disperse between isolated habitats or to migrate to new ranges. European semi-natural grasslands represent one of the world's most species-rich habitats at small scales, but agricultural intensification during the 20th century has meant that many plant species are left only on small fragments of former habitat. 5. 5. Fish in the coastal seascape : exploring ecological processes and connectivity for conservation of temperate fish communities

    Author : Thomas Staveley; Martin Gullström; Mats Björk; Regina Lindborg; Emma Jackson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seascape ecology; landscape ecology; seagrass; marine habitats; fish; spatial analysis; connectivity; conservation; Sweden; temperate; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : The need to understand patterns and processes in the marine environment has never been so profound as today, particularly as anthropogenic pressures upon coastal regions are drastically affecting habitats and species across a vast range. One approach to further understand these patterns and processes is through the use of seascape ecology methods. READ MORE
