    Abstract : Word embedding is a technique for associating the words of a language with real-valued vectors, enabling us to use algebraic methods to reason about their semantic and grammatical properties. This thesis introduces a word embedding method called principal word embedding, which makes use of principal component analysis (PCA) to train a set of word embeddings for words of a language. 2. 17. Translation as Linear Transduction : Models and Algorithms for Efficient Learning in Statistical Machine Translation

    Author : Markus Saers; Joakim Nivre; Anna Sågvall Hein; Dekai Wu; Kevin Knight; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; linear transduction; linear transduction grammar; inversion transduction; zipper finite-state automaton; zipper finite-state transducer; formal language theory; formal transduction theory; translation; automatic translation; machine translation; statistical machine translation; Computational linguistics; Datorlingvistik; Language technology; Språkteknologi; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : Automatic translation has seen tremendous progress in recent years, mainly thanks to statistical methods applied to large parallel corpora. Transductions represent a principled approach to modeling translation, but existing transduction classes are either not expressive enough to capture structural regularities between natural languages or too complex to support efficient statistical induction on a large scale. 3. 18. Clustering in Swedish : The Impact of some Properties of the Swedish Language on Document Clustering and an Evaluation Method

    Author : Magnus Rosell; Viggo Kann; Björn Levin; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Document Clustering; Language technology; Språkteknologi;

    Abstract : Text clustering divides a set of texts into groups, so that texts within each group are similar in content. It may be used to uncover the structure and content of unknown text sets as well as to give new perspectives on known ones. READ MORE

  4. 19. Robots Beyond Borders : The Role of Social Robots in Spoken Second Language Practice

    Author : Ronald Cumbal; Olov Engwall; Tony Belpaeme; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Conversations; gaze; backchannels; multi-party; accent; culture; Samtal; blick; återkoppling; gruppdynamik; brytning; kultur; Speech and Music Communication; Tal- och musikkommunikation;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how social robots can support adult second language (L2) learners in improving conversational skills. It recognizes the challenges inherent in adult L2 learning, including increased cognitive demands and the unique motivations driving adult education. READ MORE

  5. 20. Generalized Hebbian Algorithm for Dimensionality Reduction in Natural Language Processing

    Author : Genevieve Gorrell; Arne Jönsson; Robin Cooper; Alexander Rudnicky; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Generalized Hebbian Algorithm; Language Modelling; Singular Value Decomposition; Eigen Decomposition; Latent Semantic Analysis; Vector Space Models; Computational linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : The current surge of interest in search and comparison tasks in natural language processing has brought with it a focus on vector space approaches and vector space dimensionality reduction techniques. Presenting data as points in hyperspace provides opportunities to use a variety of welldeveloped tools pertinent to this representation. READ MORE
