  1. 1. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil

    Author : Erik Andersson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; PLFA; PAH metabolites; PAH; degradation; contaminated soil; soil; brown-rot fungi; white-rot fungi; Colonisation; fungal growth; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. READ MORE

  2. 2. DYNAMIC MODELLING OF BIOGEOCHEMICAL PROCESSES IN FOREST ECOSYSTEMS

    Author : Salim Belyazid; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Naturvetenskap; marklära; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik; Natural science; Lantbrukshydrologi; Soil Science; agricultural hydrology; Växtekologi; Forest Soil Acidification; Plant ecology; Plant biochemistry; Forest Growth; Vegetation biodiversity; Carbon Sequestration; Nitrogen Leaching; Miljökemi; Dynamic Modelling; Växtbiokemi; Environmental chemistry;

    Abstract : Forests in Sweden are undergoing rapid and considerable changes regarding both management methods and environmental conditions. To understand the effects of these changes and to be able to predict impending changes in forest ecosystems, a holistic understanding of the processes governing the ecosystem is needed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of water conditions on growth and mineral nutrient uptake of native plants on clacareous soil

    Author : Aparna Misra; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agricultural hydrology; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; wet growing; wet dry cycles; soil solution; soil moisture; pH; nutrient poor soil; mineral nutrients; dry growing; Bicarbonate; calicole; Soil Science;

    Abstract : The studies presented in Papers I to IV illustrate the importance of soil moisture in soil solution chemistry and response of native plants to the changes induced by change in moisture regime. With the help of glasshouse experiments I tried to study the influence of different treatments of soil moisture conditions on the mineral uptake by native plants of calcareous soil. READ MORE

  4. 4. Theoretical studies of blue copper proteins

    Author : Mats H M Olsson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum chemistry; metal-thiolate bonds; axial ligation; electron transfer proteins; reduction potential; reorganisation energy; Cu II ; Cu I ; strain; Induced-rack theory; Entatic state theory; cytochrome c oxidase; CuA; nitrite reductase; azurin; Blue copper proteins; plastocyanin; B3LYP; CASPT2; Soil Science; agricultural hydrology; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a critical investigation is presented about the role of mechanical strain for the electron-transfer properties of the blue copper proteins. It has been found that the structure of a realistic model complex of the oxidised blue-copper active site, optimised in vacuum with the B3LYP method, has the same trigonal cupric geometry as in the protein. 5. 5. Hydrological Modelling, Topographical Influence and Yield Mapping in Precision Agriculture

    Author : Andreas Persson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatially distributed hydrological modelling; Precision Agriculture; Yield mapping; Topographical wetness index; Drainage area; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science;

    Abstract : The use of topographical data in hydrological and agricultural applications has increased with GPS data availability and the concept of precision agriculture. This thesis investigates the relationships between topography and in one case simulated soil moisture and in the other case yield. READ MORE
