   Abstract : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout.    Abstract : Parkinson's disease is caused by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the ventral mesencephalon. Various animal models and clinical trials has shown that grafts of fetal ventral mesencephalic tissue can survive and functionally reinnervate the dopamine-depleted striatum, leading to long-term improvements of therapeutic value, but still symptomatic relief is far from complete.    Abstract : We evaluated, in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with thrombolytics, admission Troponin T (tnT), ST-segment resolution and admission N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) for early risk stratification as well as time delays and outcome in real life patients according to prehospital or in-hospital thrombolytic treatment.
