  2. 2. The muscle cytoskeleton of mice and men : Structural remodelling in desmin myopathies

    Author : Lena Carlsson; Lars-Eric Thornell; Anders Arnér; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; desmin; nestin; synemin; paranemin; plectin; αB-crystallin; skeletal muscle; heart muscle; myotendinous junction; motor endplate; costamere; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : The muscle fibre cytoskeleton of skeletal and heart muscle cells is composed mainly of intermediate filaments (IFs), that surround the myofibrils and connect the peripheral myofibrils with the sarcolemma and the nuclear membrane. Desmin is the first muscle specific IF protein to be produced in developing muscles and is the main IF protein in mature muscles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Satellite cells in human skeletal muscle : molecular identification quantification and function

    Author : Mona Lindström; Lars-Eric Thornell; Hannu Kalimo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; satellite cell markers; NCAM; Pax7; MyoD; myogenin; DLK1 FA1; c-Met; human skeletal muscle; immunohistochemistry; muscle growth; muscle hypertrophy; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle satellite cells located between the plasma membrane and the basal lamina of muscle fibres, could for many years, only be studied in situ by electron microscopy. The introduction of immunohistochemistry and the discovery of molecular markers of satellite cells then made them accessible for light microscopic studies and a wealth of information is today available. 4. 4. Extra- and intrafusal muscle fibre type compositions of the human masseter at young age. : In perspective of growth and functional maturation of the jaw-face motor system

    Author : Catharina Österlund; Per-Olof Eriksson; Lars-Eric Thornell; Per Stål; Malin Ernberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; jaw; limb; human; muscle; morphology; fibre type; myosin heavy chain; muscle spindle; Morphology; Morfologi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Muscles control body posture and movement by extrafusal and intrafusal (muscle spindle) fibres. The purpose of this thesis was to provide insight into the muscular basis for human jaw function at young age. READ MORE
