1. Infrared Laser Stimulation of Cerebral Cortex Cells - Aspects of Heating and Cellular Responses
Abstract : The research of functional stimulation of neural tissue is of great interest within the field of clinical neuroscience to further develop new neural prosthetics. A technique which has gained increased interest during the last couple of years is the stimulation of nervous tissue using infrared laser light. READ MORE

2. Characterisation and application of a laser-based hard x-ray source
Abstract : Hard X-rays are generated by focusing 110 fs laser pulses with intensities of about 1017 W·cm-2 onto solid metal targets. Characteristic properties of this X-ray source are the small source size, the short pulse duration and the high peak flux. READ MORE

3. Ground Object Recognition using Laser Radar Data : Geometric Fitting, Performance Analysis, and Applications
Abstract : This thesis concerns detection and recognition of ground object using data from laser radar systems. Typical ground objects are vehicles and land mines. For these objects, the orientation and articulation are unknown. The objects are placed in natural or urban areas where the background is unstructured and complex. READ MORE

4. High Power, Long Wavelength Semiconductor Disk Lasers for Continuous and Mode-Locked Operation
Abstract : The semiconductor disk laser has recentlyemerged as an attractive alternative to bulky and power consuming gas and solid state lasers. It offers compact, powerful and efficient devices with W level output power and beam properties earlier not achieved with semiconductor lasers. READ MORE

5. Microsystems Technology for Underwater Vehicle Applications
Abstract : The aim of this thesis work has been to investigate how miniaturization, such as microsystems technology, can potentially increase the scientific throughput in exploration of hard-to-reach underwater environments, such as the subglacial lakes of Antarctica, or other challenging environments, including cave systems and wrecks. A number of instruments and subsystems applicable to miniature submersibles have been developed and studied, and their potential to provide a high functionality density for size-restricted exploration platforms has been assessed.
