  1. 21. Bright Lights: Innovative Micro- and Nano-Patterning for Sensing and Tissue Engineering

    Author : Alessandro Enrico; Göran Stemme; Frank Niklaus; Anna Herland; Jürgen Brugger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Micro-electromechanical systems MEMS ; nanotechnology; nanowires; microfabrication; tissue engineering; crack-lithography; direct writing; femtosecond lasers; two-photon polymerization; 3D micromachining; cavitation molding; scalable optical patterning; 2D materials; surface structuring; bacterial-surface interaction.; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Light is the primary source of energy on our planet and has been a significant driver in the evolution of human society and technology. Light finds applications in two-dimensional (2D) photolithography and three-dimensional (3D) printing, where a pattern is transferred to a material of interest by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, and in laser scribing and cutting, where high power lasers are used to pattern the surface of objects or cut through the bulk of the material of interest. 2. 22. Additive manufacturing of fused silica glass

    Author : Pawel Maniewski; Michael Fokine; Fredrik Laurell; Daniel Milanese; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; laser cladding; 3d printing; additive manufacturing; glass; fused silica; laser; scattering; silica; Optik och fotonik; Optics and Photonics; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Additive Manufacturing, of both metals and polymers, has seen rapid development in recent years, whereas the progress in glass has been rather slow. Today, glass can be considered the last frontier without a specialized 3D printing method available. READ MORE

  3. 23. Laser welding and cladding : the effects of defects on fatigue behaviour

    Author : Md. Minhaj Alam; Stewart Williams; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Manufacturing Systems Engineering; Produktionsutveckling;

    Abstract : The thesis focuses on weld defects in laser processed materials (for laser welding, laser hybrid arc welding and laser cladding) and their effect on the fatigue life of components. Component properties were studied with particular emphasis on the macro and micro surface geometry, weld defects and clad defects. READ MORE

  4. 24. Optical Guiding and Feedback in Gallium Nitride Based Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers

    Author : Seyed Ehsan Hashemi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; antiguiding; vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser; gallium nitride laser; TiO2 high contrast grating;

    Abstract : The gallium-nitride (GaN) semiconductor material has been the core of the revolutionary breakthroughs during the last two decades in the lighting industry, by enabling manufacturing of efficient blue light emitting diodes (LEDs), for which the 2014 Nobel prize in physics was awarded. The GaN technology has further led to violet edge-emitting lasers (EELs), enabling the Blu-ray disk technology, and also to the commercialization of directly green emitting EELs. READ MORE

    Abstract : Under senare år har omfattande insatser gjorts för att främja mer hållbara flygtransporter i Europa. De konventionella tillverkningsmetoderna som används inom flyg- och rymdindustrin kräver betydande mängder råmaterial, vars utvinning, bearbetning och användning har negativa miljöeffekter. READ MORE
