  1. 1. Pollen analysis, chronology and palaeomagnetism of three Late Weichselian sites in southern Sweden

    Author : Jonas Ising; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; southern Sweden; calendar year chronology; Late Weichselian; Pollen stratigraphy; palaeomagnetic secular variations; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Three sites, Torreberga in Skåne, Farslycke in Blekinge and Lake Bolmen in Småland, with Late Weichselian lake sediments were studied with respect to pollen analysis and palaeomagnetism. The chronologies are based on pollen stratigraphical correlations, radiocarbon dating and, for two of the sites, on a clay-varve chronology. READ MORE

  2. 2. Late Weichselian and early Holocene changes of vegetation, climate and sea level on the Skagi peninsula, northern Iceland

    Author : Mats Rundgren; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asthenosphere viscosity; glacial loading unloading; marine polar front migrations; sea-level change; climate change; vegetation change; Early Holocene; Late Weichselian; Iceland; Lake sediments; Skagi peninsula; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Sediment sequences from five lakes on the Skagi peninsula, northern Iceland, were subjected to mineral magnetic analysis, carbon analysis, pollen analysis, plant macrofossil analysis, diatom analysis, radiocarbon dating and tephra analysis in order to make detailed reconstructions of vegetation, climate and sea level during the Late Weichselian and Early Holocene. The main purpose was to investigate if the dramatic deglacial climatic shifts recorded in proxy records from the North Atlantic region, such as ice cores, marine sediments and lake sediments, also are registered in Skagi lake sediments, which would be expected considering Iceland´s position in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, within the range of the Late Weichselian–Early Holocene migrations of the marine polar front. 3. 3. Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River region, northwest Poland

    Author : Gert Pettersson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quaternary Geology; Kvartärgeologi; Geology; Geologi; Vistulian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; Poland; Chodziez; Clast lithology; Clast fabrics; Deglaciation; Ice stream; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; geomorphology; klimatologi; geomorfologi; climatology;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results of studies on the ice flow pattern and ice movement mechanism during the Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River area, NW Poland. A new lithostratigraphy of the study area has been established, based on correlation of stratigraphical position, clast lithology, fabrics and grain size composition of till units. READ MORE

  4. 4. Vegetation and climate during Weichselian ice free intervals in northern Sweden : Interpretations from fossil and modern pollen records

    Author : Martina Hättestrand; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Donatella Magri; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Weichselian; interstadial; stadial; glacial history; northern Sweden; Tärendö; Riipiharju; Rissejauratj; Veiki moraine; pollen analysis; pollen deposition; pollen trap; PAR; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the Weichselian history of northern Sweden is investigated, with emphasis on vegetation and climate during ice-free intervals. The main method used has been pollen analysis of sediments from pre-Late Weichselian landforms. To interpret fossil pollen assemblages, comparisons with modern pollen spectra were made. READ MORE
