  1. 6. Visual Representations and Models: From Latent SVM to Deep Learning

    Author : Hossein Azizpour; Stefan Carlsson; Barbara Caputo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer Vision; Machine Learning; Artificial Intelligence; Deep Learning; Learning Representation; Deformable Part Models; Discriminative Latent Variable Models; Convolutional Networks; Object Recognition; Object Detection; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Two important components of a visual recognition system are representation and model. Both involves the selection and learning of the features that are indicative for recognition and discarding those features that are uninformative. READ MORE

  2. 7. Identification of Stochastic Nonlinear Dynamical Models Using Estimating Functions

    Author : Mohamed Abdalmoaty; Håkan Hjalmarsson; Adrian Wills; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Prediction Error Method; Maximum Likelihood; Data-driven; Learning; Stochastic; Nonlinear; Dynamical Models; Non-stationary Linear Predictors; Intractable Likelihood; Latent Variable Models; Estimation; Process Disturbance; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Data-driven modeling of stochastic nonlinear systems is recognized as a very challenging problem, even when reduced to a parameter estimation problem. A main difficulty is the intractability of the likelihood function, which renders favored estimation methods, such as the maximum likelihood method, analytically intractable. READ MORE

  3. 8. Novel variable influence on projection (VIP) methods in OPLS, O2PLS, and OnPLS models for single- and multi-block variable selection : VIPOPLS, VIPO2PLS, and MB-VIOP methods

    Author : Beatriz Galindo-Prieto; Johan Trygg; Lennart Eriksson; Paul Geladi; Olav M. Kvalheim; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Variable influence on projection; VIP; MB-VIOP; orthogonal projections to latent structures; OPLS; O2PLS; OnPLS; variable selection; variable importance in multiblock regression; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Abstract : Multivariate and multiblock data analysis involves useful methodologies for analyzing large data sets in chemistry, biology, psychology, economics, sensory science, and industrial processes; among these methodologies, partial least squares (PLS) and orthogonal projections to latent structures (OPLS®) have become popular. Due to the increasingly computerized instrumentation, a data set can consist of thousands of input variables which contain latent information valuable for research and industrial purposes. READ MORE

  4. 9. Estimation of Nonlinear Latent Variable and Mixture Models

    Author : Johan Vegelius; Shaobo Jin; Fan Yang-Wallentin; Melanie Wall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; structural equation modeling; semiparametric; EM algorithm; adaptive Gauss-Hermite quadrature approximation; Laplace approximation; zero inflation; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis methods are developed for estimation of latent variable models. In particular nonlinear structural equation models are estimated in the presence of ordinal data and mixture models for count data. READ MORE

    Author : David Sundström; Kurt Brännäs; Sofia Lundberg; Michael Visser; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; auctions; dependent variable transformation model; green public procurement; indirect inference; instrumental variable; latent variable; log-generalized gamma distribution; maximum likelihood; measurement error; non-linear least squares; objective effectiveness; orthogonal polynomial regression; prediction; simulation estimation; structural estimation; nationalekonomi; Economics; Econometrics; ekonometri;

    Abstract : In Paper [I] we use data on Swedish public procurement auctions for internal regularcleaning service contracts to provide novel empirical evidence regarding green publicprocurement (GPP) and its effect on the potential suppliers’ decision to submit a bid andtheir probability of being qualified for supplier selection. We find only a weak effect onsupplier behavior which suggests that GPP does not live up to its political expectations. READ MORE
