  1. 1. Analysis of sterol metabolism in the pathogenic oomycetes Saprolegnia parasitica and Phytophthora infestans

    Author : Paul Dahlin; Vincent Bulone; Lisbeth Jonsson; Katharina Pawlowski; Lauren Mckee; Sophia Ekengren; Folke Sitbon; Steven Kelly; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The primary objective of this thesis was to investigate the sterol metabolism of two pathogenic oomycetes, specifically the processes of sterol synthesis and sterol acquisition in the fish pathogen Saprolegnia parasitica (Saprolegniales) and the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans (Peronosporales). Furthermore, the effects of steroidal glycoalkaloids from Solanaceous plants, on P. READ MORE

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biochemical characterisation; cellulose synthase; chitin synthase; in vitro activity assay; microtubule-interacting and trafficking domain; nanoparticle; oomycetes; phylogenetic analysis; yeast engineering; biokemisk karakterisering; cellulosasyntas; kitinsyntas; in vitro aktivitetsanalys; mikrotubulus-interagerande och -trafikerande domän; nanopartikel; oomyceter; fylogenetisk analys; jäst proteinteknik; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Despite resembling ‘true’ fungi in terms of morphological features, oomycetes form a distinct eukaryotic lineage of filamentous microorganisms that belongs to the stramenopiles, a group of protists also comprising the closely-related brown algae and diatoms. Many oomycetes are devastating pathogens of plants and animals, globally causing significant economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and posing considerable environmental damage to natural ecosystems. 3. 3. Biosynthesis, interactions, and structure of native lignin

    Author : Ioanna Sapouna; Lauren S. McKee; Francisco Vilaplana; Claudia Crestini; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; lignin; biomass valorization; extraction; tissue culture; lignin nanoparticles; wood aerogels; lignin; biomassavalorisering; extraktion; vävnadsodling; lignin nanopartiklar; trä aerogeler; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Wood biomass is an important resource in the development ofstrategies towards replacement of fossil-based materials. Woodcomprises cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin, in amounts thatvary between species. READ MORE
