  1. 1. Airborne Gravity Gradient, Magnetic and VLF datasets : Case studies of modelling, inversion and interpretation

    Author : Sayyed Mohammad Abtahi; Thomas Kalscheuer; Laust Pedersen; Jochen Kamm; Thorkild Rasmussen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; VLF; gravity gradient; magnetic; airborne; inversion; non-uniqueness;

    Abstract : Northern Sweden is one of the largest hosts for mineral resources in Europe and always has been an interesting area for researchers from various disciplines of Earth sciences. This dissertation is a comprehensive summary of three case study papers on airborne VLF, gravity gradient and magnetic data in the area. READ MORE

    Author : Majid Beiki; Laust Pedersen; Mehrdad Bastani; Mark Pilkington; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gravity gradient tensor; pseudo-gravity; magnetic field; eigenvector analysis; least squares algorithm; strike direction; source parameter estimation; analytic signal; Euler deconvolution; joint inversion; infinite dike model; geological contact model; Solid earth physics; Fasta jordens fysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Gravity gradient tensor (GGT) data contains the second derivatives of the Earth’s gravitational potential in three orthogonal directions. GGT data can be measured either using land, airborne, marine or space platforms. READ MORE

  3. 3. High-Resolution Seismics Methods Applied to Till Covered Hard Rock Environments

    Author : Björn Bergman; Christopher Juhlin; Laust Börsting Pedersen; Ari Tryggvason; Ramon Carbonell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; High-Resolution; Reflection Seismics; Tomography; Nuclear waste repository; Bedrock; Sediments; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : Reflection seismic and seismic tomography methods can be used to image the upper kilometer of hard bedrock and the loose unconsolidated sediments covering it. Developments of these two methods and their application, as well as identifying issues concerning their usage, are the main focus of the thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. From 2D to 3D Models of Electrical Conductivity based upon Magnetotelluric Data : Experiences from two Case Studies

    Author : Juliane Hübert; Laust B Pedersen; Ari Tryggavson; Toivo Korja; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Magnetotelluric measurements are among the few geophysical techniques capable of imaging the structure both in the shallow subsurface as well as the entire crust of the Earth. With recent technical and computational advances it has become possible to derive three-dimensional inversion models of the electrical conductivity from magnetotelluric data, thereby overcoming the problems arising from the simplified assumption of two-dimensionality in conventional two-dimensional modeling. Abstract : An integrated use of radio magnetotelluric (RMT) and controlled source tensor magnetotelluric (CSTMT) measurements, the so-called CSRMT method, has been employed in environmental and resource exploration studies. A number of case histories, including a groundwater investigation in glacial deposits, a study of fracture zones for geotechnical purposes and a mining exploration study of a copper deposit, are presented in this thesis in order to illustrate the usefulness and capability of the CSRMT method.
