  1. 1. Static Visualizations for Dynamic Hierarchies

    Author : Wiebke Köpp; Tino Weinkauf; Vijay Natarajan; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dynamic hierarchies; Static visualization; Pixel-based visualization; Scalar data; Topology; Layout stability; Dynamiska hierarkier; Statisk visualisering; Pixelbaserad visualisering; Skalärdata; Topologi; Layout-stabilitet; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Dynamic hierarchical data describes phenomena in a wide range of domains, from file management to demographics and business administration, as well as feature extraction results in spatial scientific data. As with all data, visualization is an integral step for gaining understanding about dynamic hierarchical data. READ MORE

  2. 2. On modelling of slope stability in sensitive clay

    Author : Carolina Sellin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; constitutive modelling; mobilisation of shear strength; destructuration; slope stability; anisotropy; sensitive clay; rate dependence;

    Abstract : The stability of natural slopes is a global problem, with the number of landslides and the associated socioeconomic losses increasing, as a result of the global trend of urbanisation, deforestation and changed weather patterns. The available methods for identifying potential failure modes and assessing the stability, however, overly simplify the modelled soil behaviour within a slope, which might lead to unnecessary mitigation measures or non-conservative results. 3. 3. Laboratory Ventilation Systems: An Analysis of the Function and Flow Stability of Different Ductwork Design Alternatives

    Author : Madis Laaniste; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; laboratory ventilation; transient flow simulation; fume hood;

    Abstract : One of the prerequisites for high safety in laboratories for chemical and microbiological research is a well-functioning ventilation system. The most typical safety measure in these laboratories is to use a fume hood as a place for activities that can cause dangerous emissions to the room air. READ MORE

  4. 4. Speed Choice : The Driver, the Road and Speed Limits

    Author : Mats Haglund; Nils Petter Gregersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Driving behaviour; Speed choice; Risk estimates; Enforcement; Attitudes; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Speed choice is one of the more characteristic features of driver behaviour. The speed a driver chooses to travel at determines the degree of difficulty he or she operates under. Higher speeds lead to more accidents, higher accident risk and more severe consequences of an accident. READ MORE

  5. 5. High Power Radio Frequency Solid-State Amplifiers and Combiners for Particle Accelerators : From module to system design approach

    Author : Long Hoang; Dragos Dancila; Paul Tasker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : solid state technology; power amplifier; superconducting cavities; optimal charging; high efficiency; particle accelerators; Engineering Science with specialization in Microwave Technology; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrovågsteknik;

    Abstract : The rise of Big Science projects brings issues related to the energy consumption and the associated environmental impacts of such large-scale facilities. Therefore, environmentally-sustainable developments are undertaken towards the adoption of energy savings and improved energy-efficient approaches. READ MORE
