  1. 1. Factors influencing the metabolism of inorganic arsenic in humans

    Author : Anna-Lena Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Arsenic; AS3MT; Gender differences; GSTO1; Metabolism; Methylation; MTHFR; Nutrition; Polymorphisms;

    Abstract : Inorganic arsenic (iAs), a naturally occurring drinking water contaminant, is a potent human carcinogen and toxicant. It is believed that in humans, as well as in most mammals, inorganic arsenic is biotransformed via reduction and methylation using one-carbon metabolism with S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) as methyl donor, and is excreted mainly in urine as dimethylarsinate (DMA) and methylarsonate (MA) as well as some unmethylated iAs (arsenate (As(V)) and arsenite (As(III)). 4. 4. Rational design of novel cell-penetrating peptides

    Author : Staffan Lindberg; Ülo Langel; Lena Mäler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Although cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have been an active field of research for over 20 years there are still properties such as efficiency and stability that must be improved for CPPs to reach their full potential as delivery vectors.In this thesis two peptides were designed for non-covalent oligonucleotide delivery, in an attempt to overcome two major issues hampering wider use of CPPs, namely low stability and endosomal entrapment.
