1. Cyclic behaviour of carburized steel
Abstract : The fatigue properties of carburized low alloyed steel have been investigated. The tests in axial fatigue showed that surface carbon below 0.8% and low amounts of retained austenite are advantageous. In bending fatigue the effects of tempering and of surface condition were studied. READ MORE

2. Crystallization on the Mesoscale : Self-Assembly of Iron Oxide Nanocubes into Mesocrystals
Abstract : Self-assembly of nanoparticles is a promising route to form complex, nanostructured materials with functional properties. Nanoparticle assemblies characterized by a crystallographic alignment of the nanoparticles on the atomic scale, i.e. mesocrystals, are commonly found in nature with outstanding functional and mechanical properties. 3. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability
Abstract : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. 4. Thermal Conductivity of Hygroscopic Foams Based on Cellulose Nanomaterials
Abstract : Biobased super-insulating materials could mitigate climate change by minimizing the use of petroleum-based materials, creating artificial carbon sinks and minimizing the energy needed to maintain pleasant interior conditions. Cellulose nanomaterials (CNM) produced from abundantly available cellulose sources constitute versatile, highly anisotropic raw materials with tunable surface chemistry and high strength. READ MORE

5. Synthesis and modification of potential CO2 adsorbents : Amine modified silica and calcium carbonates
Abstract : The prospect of rapid changes to the climate due to global warming is subject of public concern. The need to reduce the emissions of atmospheric green house gases and in particular carbon dioxide is greater than ever. Extensive research is performed to find new solutions and new materials, which tackles this problem in economically benign way. READ MORE
