21. Cladophora Cellulose-based Separators for Lithium Batteries
Abstract : The development of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has been focused on exploring and improving the electrode materials and electrolytes in the past decades. An indispensable component, the separator, is however not studied as extensively. In general, a separator has two functions, i.e. READ MORE

22. Resonant Soft X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy of Vanadium Oxides and Related Compounds
Abstract : This thesis addresses the electronic structure of vanadium and copper oxides using soft X-ray absorption (SXA) spectroscopy and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) at high brightness synchrotron radiation sources. In RIXS incident photons, tuned to the energy of specific absorption resonances, are inelastically scattered leaving behind a low energy valence excitation in the system studied. READ MORE

23. Insights in Li-ion Battery Interfaces through Photoelectron Spectroscopy Depth Profiling
Abstract : Compounds forming alloys with lithium, such as silicon or tin, are promising negative electrode materials for the next generation of Li-ion batteries due to their higher theoretical capacity compared to the current commercial electrode materials. An important issue is to better understand the phenomena occurring at the electrode/electrolyte interfaces of these new materials. 24. Exploration of Non-Aqueous Metal-O2 Batteries via In Operando X-ray Diffraction
Abstract : Non-aqueous metal-air (Li-O2 and Na-O2) batteries have been emerging as one of the most promising high-energy storage systems to meet the requirements for demanding applications due to their high theoretical specific energy. In the present thesis work, advanced characterization techniques are demonstrated for the exploration of metal-O2 batteries. READ MORE

25. Anion redox processes in novel battery cathode materials investigated by soft X-ray spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents experimental investigations of the electronic structure of emerging and novel cathode materials used in lithium- and sodium-ion batteries. The investigated materials include a range of oxide materials containing the elements nickel and manganese. READ MORE
