1. Integration of Surface Acoustic Wave and Microfluidic Technologies for Liquid-Phase Sensing Applications
Abstract : This thesis discusses a new concept for construction of a novel SAW in-liquid sensor employing surface acoustic wave resonance (SAR) in a one-port configuration. In this concept, the reflective gratings of a one-port SAW resonator are employed as mass loading-sensing elements, while the SAW transducer is protected from the measurement environment, reducing power losses significantly. 2. Characterization of domain switching and optical damage properties in ferroelectrics
Abstract : Nonlinear optical frequency conversion is one of the most important key techniques in order to obtain lasers with wavelengths targeted for specific applications. In order to realize efficient and tailored lasers, the quasi-phase-matching (QPM) approach using periodically-poled ferroelectric crystals is getting increasingly important. READ MORE

3. Ferroelectric domain engineering and characterization for photonic applications
Abstract : Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and KTiOPO4 (KTP) are ferroelectric crystals of considerable interest in different fields of optics and optoelectronics. Due to its large values of the nonlinear optical, electro-optic (EO), piezoelectric and acousto-optical coefficients, LiNbO3 is widely used for laser frequency conversion using the quasiphase matching (QPM) approach where the sign of nonlinearity has been periodically modulated by electric field poling (EFP). 4. Synthesis and Tuning of Multifunctional Materials at High Pressure
Abstract : At the present stage, human society is developing at an unprecedented speed, facing an emergence of highly pressing challenges, e.g., information explosion, energy production problems, environmental pollution, climate problems. Functional materials with tailored properties are considered as holding a key to solving these problems. READ MORE

5. Wafer-level processing of ultralow-loss Si3N4
Abstract : Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are devices fabricated on a planar wafer that allow light generation, processing, and detection. Photonic integration brings important advantages for scaling up the complexity and functionality of photonic systems and facilitates their mass deployment in areas where large volumes and compact solutions are needed, e.
