  2. 2. Fish bile in environmental analysis

    Author : Margaretha Adolfsson-Erici; Michael McLachlan; Lillemor Asplund; Freek Ariese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish bile estrogenic triclosan rubber additives pulp and paper; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This work explores the usefulness of fish bile analysis in combination with biomarkers for identifying and evaluating new environmental contaminants in the aquatic environment. It illustrates how bile analysis can be used together with biomarkers to assess the causes of estrogenic effects, to identify chemicals in the aquatic environment that are taken up by fish, and to monitor environmental exposure. 3. 3. Chlorinated Paraffins: improved understanding of their bioaccumulation and toxicity in Daphnia magna

    Author : Mafalda Castro; Magnus Breitholtz; Anna Sobek; Elena Gorokhova; Lillemor Asplund; Martin Scheringer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chlorinated paraffins; POPs; bioaccumulation; toxicity; ecotoxicology; aquatic toxicology; daphnia magna; liposomes; passive dosing; hydrophobic; mixtures; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are industrial chemicals, mainly used as flame retardants, plasticizers and metal cutting fluids. Their production has reached historically high levels in the last decade, with an annual production exceeding one million tonnes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Environmentally relevant chemical disruptors of oxidative phosphorylation in Baltic Sea biota : Exposure and toxic potentials

    Author : Anna-Karin Dahlberg; Lillemor Asplund; Åke Bergman; Göran Marsh; Patrik Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidative phosphorylation; OH-PBDEs; MeO-PBDEs; PBDEs; long-tailed duck Clangula hyemalis ; Baltic herring Clupea harengus ; Baltic blue mussel Mytilus trossulus x Mytilus edulis ; Baltic Sea; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on toxicity and occurrence of hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) in Baltic Sea biota. The aims were to assess OH-PBDEs potency for disruption of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and determine their and related compounds exposure in Baltic blue mussel, herring and long-tailed duck. 5. 5. Exposure and effects of naturally produced hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers in fish : Implications for Baltic Sea wildlife

    Author : Johan Gustafsson; Lillemor Asplund; Pim E.G. Leonards; Marja H. Lamoree; Robert Letcher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecotoxicology; Metabolomics; OH-PBDE; Algae; Cyanobacteria; Natural products; Thiamine; Health; Biomarker; Seasonal variation; Perch; Zebrafish; Flame retardant; Mixture; 6-OH-BDE47; Energy metabolism; Endocrine disruption; Neurotoxicity; OXPHOS; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if naturally produced hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) are causing negative health effects for Baltic Sea wildlife. In the laboratory, OH-PBDEs have shown to be potent disrupters of energy metabolism as well as endocrine disruptors and neurotoxins. READ MORE
