11. Investigations on the Serviceability Limit State of Dowel-Type Timber Connections
Abstract : Dowel-type steel-to-timber connections are commonly used to transfer a large range of loads. Although they are simple to produce and assemble, the load-carrying behavior and the local stress and strain distribution within the connection area are highly complex. READ MORE

12. Limit Theorems for Lattices and L-functions
Abstract : This PhD thesis investigates distributional questions related to three types of objects: Unimodular lattices, symplectic lattices, and Hecke L-functions of imaginary quadratic number fields of class number 1. In Paper I, we follow Södergren and examine the asymptotic joint distribution of a collection of random variables arising as geometric attributes of the N = N(n) shortest non-zero lattice vectors (up to sign) in a random unimodular lattice in n-dimensional Euclidean space, as the dimension n tends to infinity: Normalizations of the lengths of these vectors, and normalizations of the angles between them. 13. Digital Electrical DNA Sensing
Abstract : Molecule detection is a workhorse in life sciences and medicine, for example in cancer diagnosis and virus and bacterial detection. DNA analysis can provide vital information about the state of a host organism and its medical and health condition. READ MORE

14. Processes on Integer Partitions and Their Limit Shapes
Abstract : This thesis deals with processes on integer partitions and their limit shapes, with focus on deterministic and stochastic variants on one such process called Bulgarian solitaire. The main scientific contributions are the following. READ MORE

15. A Search for Neutrinos from Cosmic Point Sources using AMANDA-B10 with Emphasis on Limit Calculation Techniques
Abstract : A search for cosmic point sources of neutrinos has been performed using data taken in 1999 with the AMANDA-B10 neutrino telescope. This work describes methods for signal and background separation and the statistical analysis of the final data sample. READ MORE
