  1. 11. Investigations on the Serviceability Limit State of Dowel-Type Timber Connections

    Author : Michael Dorn; de Borst Karin; Vienna University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; timber engineering; dowel-type connection; experiments; simualations; Servieability Limit State; contact behavior; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Dowel-type steel-to-timber connections are commonly used to transfer a large range of loads. Although they are simple to produce and assemble, the load-carrying behavior and the local stress and strain distribution within the connection area are highly complex. READ MORE

  2. 12. Limit Theorems for Lattices and L-functions

    Author : Kristian Holm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lattices; L-functions;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis investigates distributional questions related to three types of objects: Unimodular lattices, symplectic lattices, and Hecke L-functions of imaginary quadratic number fields of class number 1. In Paper I, we follow Södergren and examine the asymptotic joint distribution of a collection of random variables arising as geometric attributes of the N = N(n) shortest non-zero lattice vectors (up to sign) in a random unimodular lattice in n-dimensional Euclidean space, as the dimension n tends to infinity: Normalizations of the lengths of these vectors, and normalizations of the angles between them. 3. 13. Digital Electrical DNA Sensing

    Author : Maoxiang Guo; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Fredrik Westerlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : DNA detection; thiol-ene-epoxy; rolling circle amplification; digital measurement; DNA stretching; microwell-array; gold nanowires; electrical measurement; specificity; limit of detection; liquid storage; disease diagnosis; lab-on-a-chip; point-of-care.;

    Abstract : Molecule detection is a workhorse in life sciences and medicine, for example in cancer diagnosis and virus and bacterial detection. DNA analysis can provide vital information about the state of a host organism and its medical and health condition. READ MORE

  4. 14. Processes on Integer Partitions and Their Limit Shapes

    Author : Markus Jonsson; Kimmo Eriksson; Johan Jonasson; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with processes on integer partitions and their limit shapes, with focus on deterministic and stochastic variants on one such process called Bulgarian solitaire. The main scientific contributions are the following. READ MORE

  5. 15. A Search for Neutrinos from Cosmic Point Sources using AMANDA-B10 with Emphasis on Limit Calculation Techniques

    Author : Jan Conrad; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Gregory W. Sullivan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : A search for cosmic point sources of neutrinos has been performed using data taken in 1999 with the AMANDA-B10 neutrino telescope. This work describes methods for signal and background separation and the statistical analysis of the final data sample. READ MORE
