1. N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis in Organic Synthesis - A Green Chemistry Approach
Abstract : The twelve principles of green chemistry were created as a response to the multiple environmental issues caused by the release of waste from the chemical industry. The principles acts as a guide in the development of sustainable chemical processes for the syntheses of important molecules needed to sustain our living standards. READ MORE

2. Organocatalytic Transformations with N-Heterocyclic Carbenes - An Investigation of Ionic Liquids as NHC Precatalysts and Aerobic Oxidative Esterifications
Abstract : The call for more sustainable processes in the chemical society has led to the development of the field of green chemistry. The Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry serve as guidelines for the design of processes. READ MORE

3. Oxidation of terpenes in indoor environments : A study of influencing factors
Abstract : In this thesis the oxidation of monoterpenes by O3 and NO2 and factors that influenced the oxidation were studied. In the environment both ozone (O3) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are present as oxidising gases, which causes sampling artefacts when using Tenax TA as an adsorbent to sample organic compounds in the air. 4. Novel insights into the regulation of insulin secretion by GLP-1, GIP and glucagon
Abstract : There are many contributing factors to the development of type 2 diabetes, however, failure of beta-cells to sufficiently secrete insulin is the key component. The underlying mechanism of beta-cell failure is not fully established. In this thesis, we examined the role of high glucagon levels, i.e. READ MORE

5. The Pulsar and Nebula in SNR 0540-69.3
Abstract : Supernova remnants (SNRs) are the end products of supernova (SN) explosions. These explosions happen when certain massive stars face the ends of their evolutionary cycle and create shock waves propagating in the surrounding medium by ejecting part of the star’s material. An SNR is the region defined by these powerful shocks. READ MORE
