  1. 21. The function of annexin I in human neutrophils. Studies of membrane binding

    Author : Charlotta Movitz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Human neutrophils; secretion; annexin I; grancalcin; subcellular organelles; lipid rafts; DIM;

    Abstract : The neutrophil granulocyte plays an important role in host defense against infections induced by invading microorganisms. The defense mechanism is dependent on the migration of neutrophils from the blood stream to the infected area, where the intruder is phagocytosed and killed. READ MORE

  2. 22. Applications of nanospray desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry : In situ lipid and metabolite analysis from cells to tissue

    Author : Hilde-Marléne Bergman; Ingela Lanekoff; Jonas Bergquist; Martina Marchetti-Deschmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; mass spectrometry imaging MSI ; nanospray desorption electrospray ionization nano-DESI ; single-cell analysis; neurotransmitter imaging; diabetic nephropathy; pneumatic nebulization; lipidomics; metabolomics; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Ambient mass spectrometry (MS) has proved to be an important addition to the bioanalytical toolbox. These methods perform analyte sampling and ionization under atmospheric pressure, and require very little sample preparation other than the sampling process in front of the machine. READ MORE

  3. 23. Vpu-mediated intracellular targeting of HIV-1 core protein precursor Pr55[gag] and association of Pr55[gag] with lipid microdomains

    Author : Kirsi Harila; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : HIV-1 has been suggested to use lipid rafts for assembly and budding. Lipid rafts can be separated from the bulk membranes by extraction with non-ionic detergents, such as Triton X-100 at cold, followed by a density gradient centrifugation. READ MORE

  4. 24. Conversion of lignocellulose and crude glycerol to lipids by oleaginous yeasts - physiology and diversity

    Author : Mikolaj Chmielarz; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Oleaginous yeasts are organisms capable of accumulating lipids. Some of them can grow on various substrates considered to be too toxic for many other microorganisms. Crude glycerol (CG) and hemicellulose hydrolysate (HH) are two examples of such substrates. READ MORE

  5. 25. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial function : role of ubiquinol as antioxidant

    Author : Patrik Andrée; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Over the last three decades it has been established that biquinone (coenzyme Q), in addition to its function as an electron and proton carrier in the respiratory chain, acts in its reduced form (ubiquinol) as an antioxidant. The main theme of this thesis is a study of the antioxidant function of ubiquinol in preparations of beef heart submitochondrial particles, which consist of inverted vesicular fragments of the inner mitochondrial membrane.
