  1. 16. Label free analysis and spatial distribution of molecular lipids in brain tissue and cells using mass spectrometry imaging

    Author : Amir Saeid Mohammadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass Spectrometry Imaging; Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry Imaging; Matrix Assisted Laser desorption Ionization; Lipids; Brain tissue;

    Abstract : Lipids are important inherent components in brain and cell membranes, which play significant biological roles in cell function. Identification and localization of specific biomolecules such as peptides and lipids within cellular membranes is currently a major challenge in metabolomics and biological studies. READ MORE

  2. 17. Bioactive Lipids in Nociception

    Author : Anna Ermund; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : Cannabinoids; Anandamide; AM404; 2-Arachidonoylglycerol; Acetaminophen; Cyclooxygenase; Nocicieption; TRPV1;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on bioactive lipids as (1) metabolites of the widely used antipyretic and analgesic drug acetaminophen and (2) activators of the ion channel TRPV1, an important downstream target for inflammatory mediators, in the phospholipase C (PLC)/TRPV1 signaling pathway. Evidence is presented for a fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH)-dependent fatty acid conjugation of p-aminophenol, a known acetaminophen metabolite, to form the potent TRPV1 activator AM404 in the central nervous system. 3. 18. Synthesis and protein curing abilities of membrane glycolipids

    Author : Malin Wikström; Åke Wieslander; Anthony Lee; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane; lipids; glycolipids; nonbilayer-prone; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : There are many types of membrane lipids throughout Nature. Still little is known about synthesizing pathways and how different lipids affect the embedded membrane proteins. The most common lipids are glycolipids since they dominate plant green tissue. Glycolipids also exist in mammal cells as well as in most Gram-positive bacteria. READ MORE

  4. 19. Detecting the Vulnerable Plaque

    Author : Andreas Edsfeldt; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atherosclerosis; Carotid plaque; Inflammation; Diabetes; LpPLA2; suPAR; Cytokines; Lipids;

    Abstract : Myocardial infarction and stroke, mainly caused by a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque, are two of the most common causes of mortality and morbidity in the world. Previous studies have pointed out inflammation, driven by inflammatory lipids, as the keystone in the formation of the rupture prone vulnerable plaque. READ MORE

  5. 20. Protein and lipid interactions within the respiratory chain : Studies using membrane-mimetic systems

    Author : Tobias Nilsson; Peter Brzezinski; Petra Hellwig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cytochrome c oxidase; ATP synthase; Bioenergetics; membrane-mimetics; Rcf1; liposomes; oxidative phosphorylation; lipids; protein-protein interactions; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Energy conversion from nutrients to ATP is a vital process in cells. The process, called oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) is performed by a combination of membrane-bound proteins. These proteins have been studied in great detail in the past, however much is still unknown about how they interact with each other. READ MORE
