1. Proteomics-informed analysis of drug disposition in the human liver and small intestine
Abstract : Orally administered drugs are absorbed in the intestine and generally metabolized in the liver. Therefore, understanding factors determining drug distribution and elimination in these tissues is important. READ MORE

2. Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors : Surgical Treatment and Follow-up
Abstract : Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (Pan-NET), are rare, heterogenous and derive from the hormone producing cells in the pancreas. The functioning tumors that overproduce hormones cause clinical syndromes with specific symptoms due to the hormonal production. READ MORE

3. Risk Factors and Predictors of Heart Failure: from Incidence to Prognosis
Abstract : Background: Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem affecting at least 26 million people worldwide and one of the leading causes of disability and death. Aims: To identify characteristics associated with improved or worsened prognosis in patients with established HF and to study factors associated with higher risk for the incidence of HF in the general population. 4. Enhancing prediction and causal inference in metabolic dyshomeostasis
Abstract : This thesis is focused on two globally prevalent diseases: i) non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and ii) type 2 diabetes (T2D), with an overall aim of improving prediction and causal inference in the context of these conditions. Our projects were mainly conducted using IMI DIRECT and UK Biobank datasets including multi-omics data, extensive environmental exposures, and biological intermediates. READ MORE

5. Quantitative evaluation of liver function using gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI
Abstract : Before liver resection, a reliable and accurate assessment of the liver function is essential to ensure a safe surgery and avoid unfavorable complications such as post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). Gadoxetic acid enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a routinely used imaging modality for tumor detection and characterization. READ MORE
