  1. 1. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver

    Author : Ulrika Edvardsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : PPARalpha; PPARgamma; PPARgamma2; Wy14; 643; rosiglitazone; liver; hepatocytes; insulin; fatty acids; MTP; ADRP; lipid metabolism; apoB; triglycerides.;

    Abstract : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation. 3. 3. The role of PPARalpha and growth hormone in hepatic lipid metaboism and atherosclerosis

    Author : Anna Ljungberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : growth hormone; PPARalpha; atherosclerosis; lipid metabolism; fatty acids; apoB; ; ADRP; triglycerides; PGC-1; liver;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia mainly results from oversecretion of apoB-containing lipoproteins from theliver and is one of the most important risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis.Growth hormone (GH) plays a key role in the regulation of lipoprotein metabolism and thus,disturbances in GH secretion are associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. 4. 4. Estrogen and Glucocorticoid Metabolism

    Author : Therése Andersson; Tommy Olsson; Cecilia Mattsson; Ingegerd Söderström; Jonas Burén; Agneta Holmäng; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 11β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Type 1; Estrogen; Cortisol; Adipose tissue; Liver; Menopause; Ovariectomy; Adipocyte; Estrogen Receptor β; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in Sweden. The risk of CVD increases rapidly after the menopause. A major contributing factor may be the redistribution of adipose tissue, from the peripheral to central depots, associated with menopause. READ MORE

  5. 5. Roles of PI3-kinase and ARAP2 in regulating glucose metabolism

    Author : Aditi Chaudhari; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PI3-kinase; Type 2 diabetes; ARAP2; Lipid droplets; metabolism;

    Abstract : Insulin signaling is mediated by a complex, highly integrated network which functions to control multiple metabolic and growth processes throughout the organism. A key enzyme in the insulin signaling network is phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-kinase). READ MORE
