6. The Inherent Complexity of Agglomeration : Essays on the self-organization of urban economies
Abstract : This doctoral thesis combines complexity science and economic geography in order to explore bottom-up, self-organizing principles within urban economies, in particular in relation to the flow of information and knowledge between people. The thesis consists of a kappa that covers the general theoretical framework and four papers. READ MORE

7. Implementation and Analysis of Air-Sea Exchange Processes in Atmosphere and Ocean Modelling
Abstract : To understand and to predict the weather and climate, numerical models are important tools and it is crucial that the controlling processes are described correctly. Since 70% of the global surface is covered with water the description how the ocean and atmosphere communicates has a considerable impact. READ MORE

8. On improvement of brake discs for heavy vehicles - Experimental testing and material modelling
Abstract : Disc brakes are commonly used in motorcycles, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, passenger trains and landing gear of airplanes. Depending on the application, different types of brake discs can be found on the market with numerous designs, geometries and materials. READ MORE

9. Aspects of creep-fatigue in gas turbine hot parts
Abstract : The goal is reliable creep-fatigue lifing methodology for industrial gas turbines.A literature study on high temperature materials used in gas turbines reveals that:• Most testing/modelling work has focused on characterisation and modelling of material response in isothermal standard tests, i.e. creep, tensile and LCF tests. 10. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift
Abstract : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves.
