  1. 1. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Author : Anders Jaretun; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Potassium; Chloride; Chemical recovery; Leaching; Crystallization; Kraft pulping; Non-process elements; Solubility; Local composition; Excess properties; Osmotic coefficient; Electrolytes; Activity coefficient; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Abstract : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately. 3. 3. Pre-Extraction of Wood Components Mild hydrothermal methods for a future materials biorefinery

    Author : Joanna Wojtasz-Mucha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spruce; forest residues; pre-treatment; Biorefinery; soda cooking; hot water extraction; steam explosion; autohydrolysis; birch; kraft cooking;

    Abstract : Today there is an increasing urgency in discovering new, and more sustainable, replacements for fossil-based materials and chemicals. The biorefinery concept is promising in this context in that it relies on transforming biomass into a spectrum of commercial products. Wood is the primary bioresource in Scandinavia. READ MORE

  4. 4. Materials and Device Engineering for Efficient and Stable Polymer Solar Cells

    Author : Rickard Hansson; Ellen Moons; Andreas Opitz; Rene Janssen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymer solar cell; photovoltaics; morphology; photo-degradation; conjugated polymer; fullerene; synchroton-based techniques; hole transport layers; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Polymer solar cells form a promising technology for converting sunlight into electricity, and have reached record efficiencies over 10% and lifetimes of several years. The performance of polymer solar cells depends strongly on the distribution of electron donor and acceptor materials in the active layer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modulating magnetic interactions : in metamaterials and amorphous alloys

    Author : Nanny Strandqvist; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Alexei Vorobiev; Sean Langridge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic metamaterials; interlayer exchange coupling; superlattice; mesospins; magnetic nanostructures; emergence; amorphous alloys; CoAlZr; FeZr; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on exploring and modulating magnetic interactions in metamaterials and amorphous alloys along one-, two-, and three-dimensions. First, thin films of alternating Fe and MgO are adapted to modulate magnetic interactions along one dimension. READ MORE
