  1. 1. A behavioural investigation into Eristalis tenax : Pursuit, approach estimation, locomotor activity and rearing

    Author : Malin Thyselius; Karin Nordström; Anna Rostedt Punga; Yuri Ogawa; Emily Baird; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eristalis tenax; Insect rearing; Hoverflies; Pollinators; Circadian rhythm; Target detection; Motion vision; Pursuit; LAMS; Flight arena;

    Abstract : Hoverflies are suggested to be the 2nd most important pollinator group after bees and bumblebees, and with the changing climate and dwindling numbers of pollinators it might never have been more important understanding our pollinators. Given the hoverflies’ small brains, beautiful aerial acrobatics, good temporal resolution, but limited spatial resolution, these flies make interesting study animals for flight behaviour and vision research. 2. 2. Functional Imaging of Spinal Locomotor Networks

    Author : Chetan Nagaraja; Klas Kullander; Gilad Silberberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Central pattern generators; two-photon microscopy; locomotor rhythm; multiple rhythmicities; inhibitory neurotransmission; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Movement is necessary for the survival of most animals. The spinal cord contains neuronal networks that are capable of motor coordination and of producing different movements. In particular, a very reduced neuronal network in the spinal cord can produce simple rhythmic outputs even in the absence of descending or sensory inputs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Crossing the Midline : Locomotor Neuronal Circuitry Formation

    Author : Fatima Memic; Klas Kullander; Avihu Klar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CPG; CIN; neuronal network; locomotion; left-right alternation;

    Abstract : Networks at various levels of the nervous system coordinate different motor patterns such as respiration, eye or hand movements and locomotion. Intrinsic rhythm-generating networks that are located in the spinal cord generate motor behaviors that underlie locomotion in vertebrates. READ MORE

  4. 4. Deciphering the Locomotor Network : The Role of Spinal Cord Interneurons

    Author : Sharn Perry; Klas Kullander; Kimberly Dougherty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Locomotion; central pattern generator; mouse; gait; recurrent inhibition; Renshaw cell; Dmrt3; Chrna2; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : In the spinal cord, an intricate neural network generates and coordinates the patterning of limb movements during locomotion. This network, known as the locomotor central pattern generator (CPG), comprises of various cell populations that together orchestrate the output of motor neurons. READ MORE

  5. 5. Nicotine sensitization and loss of inhibitory control. Role of serotonin

    Author : Peter Olausson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nicotine; Amphetamine; Locomotor activity; Inhibitory control; Dopamine; Serotonin; Sensitization; Nucleus accumbens; Elevated plus-maze;

    Abstract : Drug dependence is a devastating disorder present in all parts of the world. It is manifested by craving and a general loss of control over the drug intake and the life situation, ultimately leading to compulsive use of the addictive drug at the expense of normal behavioral patterns.
