  1. 21. Photoinduced Electron and Energy Transfer in Π-Conjugated Systems

    Author : Melina Gilbert Gatty; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fs spectroscopy; exciton coupling; conjugated porphyrin oligomers; ps spectroscopy; molecular wire; electron transfer; conformational analysis; self‒assembly; anthracene dendrimers; energy transfer; fluorescence anisotropy;

    Abstract : Photosynthesis is a fascinating process that provides food and oxygen. In this thesis, focus is on understanding and controlling the early processes of photosynthesis, namely photoinduced energy and electron transfer. READ MORE

  2. 22. On the Impact of Piston Motion and In-Cylinder Charge Composition on Energy Release, Auto Ignition and Emission Formation in Premixed Charge Internal Combustion Engines

    Author : Ola Stenlåås; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bränslen; sprängämnen; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; Internal Combustion Engine; Emission; SI; Spark Ignition; HCCI; Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition; zone model; Chemical Kinetic; Engine simulation; Reformed Methanol; Hydrogen; Knock; Auto Ignition; NO; Piston Motion; Nitric Oxide; Premixed Charge;

    Abstract : The results presented in this thesis can be divided into four areas of investigation: Investigation of the effect of new volume-crank angle relations on engine emissions, power and efficiency; investigation of nitrogen oxides effect on auto ignition and knock in SI engines; investigation of premixed SI and HCCI engine operation with the alternative fuels hydrogen and reformed methanol gas (RMG); software development of a detailed chemical kinetics zonal engine model. Model development of the in-house two-zone chemical kinetic code focused on expansion of the Jacobian matrix to allow simulations of variable in-cylinder charge. READ MORE

  3. 23. Pairing correlation in atomic nuclei under extreme conditions

    Author : Sara A. Changizi; Chong Qi; Elvira Moya de Guerra Valgañón; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The pairing correlation has long been recognized as the dominant many-body correlation beyond the nuclear mean field. Pairing plays an essential role in many nuclear phenomena including the occurrence of a systematic odd-even staggering (OES) of the nuclear binding energy. READ MORE

  4. 24. Mechanisms of cell diversification

    Author : Christopher Winston Uhde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cell identity and function is determined by the intrinsic wiring of the gene regulatory network that endows progenitors with the competence to respond appropriately to extrinsic cues in a spatiotemporally-dependent manner. One such class of cues, morphogens, instruct cells in their identity by virtue of a concentration gradient, but how this is interpreted at gene regulatory levels to result in sharp and robust boundaries of gene expression is poorly understood. 5. 25. Size matters : RNA silencing processes in Phytophthora infestans

    Author : Anna Åsman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Non-coding RNAs do not encode proteins but instead function through their own RNA sequence. These molecules range from several thousands of nucleotides (nt) in length down to around 20 nt. Specifically, small RNAs (sRNAs) have critical functions in eukaryotic cells, despite being only 20-30 nt long. READ MORE
