  1. 1. Simulation of Human Movements through Optimization

    Author : Robert Pettersson; Anders Eriksson; Elena Gutierrez-Farewik; Arne Nordmark; Anders Klarbring; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multibody system; human movements; optimal control; trajectory optimization; long jump; posture; rowing; somersault;

    Abstract : Optimization has been used to simulate human neural control and resulting movement patterns. The short term aim was to develop the methodology required for solving the movement optimization problem often arising when modelling human movements. READ MORE

  2. 2. Acute Achilles tendon rupture - The impact of calf muscle performance on function and recovery

    Author : Annelie Brorsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Achilles tendon rupture; Rehabilitation; Heel-rise; Function; Recovery; Calf muscle; Ankle biomechanics; Endurance; Jump; Sex differences;

    Abstract : There is an ongoing debate about the optimal treatment for patients with an acute Achilles tendon rupture. The overall purpose of this thesis was to acquire a greater knowledge of the way patients recover at different time points after the injury when treated with the currently recommended treatment protocols. 3. 3. Human Postures and Movements analysed through Constrained Optimization

    Author : Robert Pettersson; Anders Eriksson; Elena Gutierrez-Farewik; Hans Berg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multibody system; optimal control; trajectory optimization; long jump; posture; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Constrained optimization is used to derive human postures and movements. In the first study a static 3D model with 30 muscle groups is used to analyse postures. The activation levels of these muscles are minimized in order to represent the individual's choice of posture. READ MORE

  4. 4. Long-term consequences of anterior cruciate ligament injury : knee function, physical activity level, physical capacity and movement pattern

    Author : Eva Tengman; Charlotte Häger; Eva Ageberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ACL injury; cross-sectional design; isokinetic; peak torque; centre of pressure; kinematics; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Abstract : Knee function after more than 20 years post injury is rarely described and none of the few follow-up studies have evaluated functional performance tasks. This thesis investigated self-reported knee function, physical activity level, physical capacity and movement pattern in the long-term perspective (on average 23 years) in persons who had suffered a unilateral ACL injury, treated either with physiotherapy in combination with surgery (ACLR, n=33) or physiotherapy alone (ACLPT, n=37) and compared to age-and-gender matched controls (n=33). 5. 5. Essays on VIX Futures and Options

    Author : Bujar Huskaj; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NIG; Long memory; Futures; FIGARCH; FIAPARCH; Options; Realized volatility; VaR; VIX; Volume;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three essays on VIX futures and options, and deals with issues highly relevant to all financial markets, such as understanding the operation of markets and developing flexible and tractable pricing models for contracts traded in them. It consists of four chapters. READ MORE
