1. Soil-Steel Composite Bridges : Research advances and application
Abstract : Soil-steel composite bridges are considered competitive structures being an economical alternative to similar span concrete bridges. This frequently stimulates practitioners to push their design limits and expand the different areas of application including their performance in sloping terrain. READ MORE

2. Impact of root and mycorrhizal exudation on soil carbon fluxes : influence of elevated CO2 and metals
Abstract : The thesis concerns the behavior of root and ectomycorrhizal (ECM) exudates. In particular, the dynamics of soluble low molecular weight (LMW) organic compounds such as organic acids (LMWOAs), amino acids, monosaccharides, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) have been studied. READ MORE

3. New tools for sample preparation and instrumental analysis of dioxins in environmental samples
Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of structurally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, are of high concern due to their global distribution and extreme toxicity. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex, challenging and hence there is a need for efficient, reliable and rapid alternative analytical methods. READ MORE

4. Spring water stress in Scots pine: interaction of snow and soil temperature
Abstract : Water use and net carbon assimilation during spring was examined on Scots pine trees exposed to different soil warming dynamics in the field. Sap flow, needle water potential and net carbon assimilation were measured on trees that were exposed to a wide range of soil temperature regimes caused by manipulating the snow cover on tree-scale soil plots. 5. Sulphide-rich tailings remediated by soil cover : evaluation of cover efficiency and tailings geochemistry, Kristineberg, northern Sweden
Abstract : The efficiency of soil cover as a method of remediation of sulphide-rich tailings has been studied at an impoundment at the Kristineberg mine, Northern Sweden. Two variations of soil cover were used in the remediation. The major part of the impoundment was covered with a 1.0 m layer of till where the groundwater table was shallow. READ MORE
