  1. 1. Sparse Codes on Graphs with Convolutional Code Constraints

    Author : Muhammad Umar Farooq; Kommunikationsteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Braided codes; Density evolution; Serially concatenated codes; Spatially coupled codes; Generalized LDPC codes; threshold saturation; Turbo codes;

    Abstract : Modern coding theory is based on the foundation of the sparse codes on graphs, such as the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, and the turbo-like codes (TCs) with component convolutional codes. The success of the LDPC codes and the TCs lies in their ability to perform low-complexity iterative message passing decoding procedures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improving the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) : a study using Chlamydia trachomatis as a model infection

    Author : Daniel Novak; Roger Karlsson; Berit Andersen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; STI; Prevention; Chlamydia; Postal screening; cost effective; condom; Internet; self-selective screening; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; Family Medicine; allmänmedicin;

    Abstract : Despite the current preventive strategies sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are rising. This thesis presents a model with the aim of improving the prevention of STIs. Chlamydia being the most common STI in Sweden serves as a model infection. The presented model is based on five performed studies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Causes and Consequences of Early-life Conditions : Alcohol, Pollution and Parental Leave Policies

    Author : Jenny Jans; J. Peter Nilsson; Per Johansson; Arizo Karimi; Matthew Neidell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Air pollution; alcohol availability; parental leave policies; health; educational attainment; earnings; time investments; child outcomes; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : Essay I: This paper studies the effect of air pollution on infant health in Sweden. Combining register panel data on birth outcomes and family characteristics with pollution data, I estimate the effect of particulate matter (PM10) on several birth outcomes that previously have been shown to be predictive of future outcomes. 4. 4. Probe-based admission control in IP networks

    Author : Ignacio Más Ivars; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The current Internet design is based on a best–effortservice, which combines high utilization of network resourceswith simplicity. As a consequence of this design, the Internetis unable to provide guaranteed or predictable quality ofservice (QoS), required to offer real–time services thathave constraints on end–to–end delay, delay jitterand packet loss. 5. 5. The use of structural information to improve biological sequence similarity searches

    Author : Jeanette Tångrot; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioinformatik; Hidden Markov Model; HMM; protein structure alignment; protein structure superimposition; remote homologue; FISH-server; protein annotation; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : Bioinformatics is a fast-developing field that make use of computational methods to analyse and structure biological data. An important branch of bioinformatics is structure and function prediction of proteins. To determine the structure of a protein is a crucial part in the characterisation of the molecule. READ MORE
