  1. 1. Biolubrication: Structural investigation of lubricin and its glycosylation

    Author : Liaqat Ali; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lubricin; mass spectrometry; EPAPTTPK; GALNTs; biolubricator;

    Abstract : The sliding articular cartilage surfaces of the human diarthrodial joints are surrounded by biolubricating synovial fluid (SF), creating a perfect low friction biological biobearing structure with excellent lubrication and wear resistance, even during motion. Lubrication is predominately provided by surface adhered biomolecules including phospholipids, hyaluronic acid and synovial lubricin. READ MORE

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the principles of biolubrication, focusing on synergistic effects between biolubricants. To this end surface force and friction measurements were carried out by means of Atomic Force Microscopy, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic model surfaces in salt solutions of high ionic strength (≈ 150 mM) in presence of different biolubricants. 3. 3. Synergies in Biolubrication

    Author : Akanksha Raj; Andra Dedinaite; Imre Varga; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biolubrication; Synergies; Adsorption; Surface Force; Friction; Load Bearing Capacity; Self Healing; Phospholipids; DPPC; Hyaluronan; COMP; Lubricin; QCM-D; AFM; XRR.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to advance understanding in the field of biolubrication, finding inspiration from the human synovial joints. This was addressed by investigating the association of key biolubricants and the resulting lubrication performance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inflammation in equine articular cartilage : the effect of cytokines in chondrocyte pellets and explants: two in vitro models

    Author : Emilia Svala; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the main reason for lameness in racehorses. OA is currently clinically diagnosed late in the disease process, when irreversible damages to the articular cartilage have become evident. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intrasynovial flexor tendon injuries and repair

    Author : Sara Edsfeldt; Monica Wiig; Kenneth Jonsson; Lars Adolfsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Complications after surgical repair of intrasynovial flexor tendon injuries in the hand occur despite advanced suture techniques and structured postoperative rehabilitation regimens. Early controlled tendon mobilization prevents adhesion formations and improves tendon healing as well as digit range of motion. READ MORE
