  1. 1. Uncertainty in Quantitative Risk Analysis - Characterisation and Methods of Treatment

    Author : Marcus Abrahamsson; Lunds universitets centrum för riskanalys och riskhantering (LUCRAM); []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kvantitativ riskanalys; decision making; safety; quantitative risk analysis; uncertainty analysis; osäkerhetsanalys; säkerhet; beslutsfattande;

    Abstract : The fundamental problems related to uncertainty in quantitative risk analyses, used in decision making in safety-related issues (for instance, in land use planning and licensing procedures for hazardous establishments and activities) are presented and discussed, together with the different types of uncertainty that are introduced in the various stages of an analysis. A survey of methods for the practical treatment of uncertainty, with emphasis on the kind of information that is needed for the different methods, and the kind of results they produce, is also presented. 2. 2. Risk and Vulnerability Analysis of Complex Systems: a basis for proactive emergency management

    Author : Henrik Hassel; Lunds universitets centrum för riskanalys och riskhantering (LUCRAM); []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; values; operational definitions; emergency response capabilities; Risk- och sårbarhetsanalys; storskaliga tekniska infrastrukturer; värderingar; complex systems; komplexa system; krishanteringsförmåga; Risk and vulnerability analysis; operationella definitioner; large-scale technical infrastructures;

    Abstract : The present thesis concerns methods and knowledge that are useful when analysing the risks and vulnerabilities of complex systems in a societal emergency management context. Operational definitions of vulnerability and emergency response capabilities are suggested and two methods for analysing the vulnerability of critical infrastructure networks, based on the suggested definition, are presented. 3. 3. Grasping complexity: analysing risk for sustainable development

    Author : Per Becker; Lunds universitets centrum för riskanalys och riskhantering (LUCRAM); []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; sustainable development; Development; risk; risk analysis; sustainability science; disaster; value; hazard; vulnerability; system; capability; human-environment systems; systems approach; design science.;

    Abstract : Sustainable development relies on our ability to make decisions today that will determine our tomorrow. Given that uncertainty is explicitly allowed to influence our view of what the future holds for us, most ex ante analyses of challenges for sustainable development can be viewed as analysing risk. 4. 4. Escalation: Explorative studies of high-risk situations from the theoretical perspectives of complexity and joint cognitive systems

    Author : Johan Bergström; Lunds universitets centrum för riskanalys och riskhantering (LUCRAM); []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; escalation; resilience engineering; crisis; emergency; patient safety; simulation; complexity; joint cognitive systems;

    Abstract : The main aim of the research is to explore different aspects of organisational resilience in escalating situations, with an investigation of both theoretical and practical implications. From the platform of an explorative approach, this study makes use of naturalistic research in the domain of health care and experimental simulation studies, in order to establish a broad theoretical framework vis-à-vis the processes of escalation. 5. 5. Exploring the Railway System from a Risk Governance Perspective

    Author : Alexander Cedergren; Lunds universitets centrum för riskanalys och riskhantering (LUCRAM); []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; risk governance; railway; framing; accident investigation; implementation; vulnerability; resilience; critical infrastructure;

    Abstract : In recent decades, the Swedish railway system has faced substantial deregulations. As a result, management of risk is often carried out in settings involving multiple stakeholders having various roles, mandates, and viewpoints on risk, and where no single stakeholder has the superior authority.
