  1. 1. Biomarkers in non-small cell lung carcinoma : methodological aspects and influence of gender, histology and smoking habits on estrogen receptor and epidermal growth factor family receptor signalling

    Author : Christina Karlsson; Karin Piehl-Aulin; Ulf Tidefelt; Gisela Helenius; Leif Johansson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Non-small cell lung carcinoma; estrogen receptor; epidermal growth factor receptor; HER-4; tissue microarray; immunohistochemistry; smoking habits; in situ hybridisation; Onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : Non-small cell lung carcinoma is a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. There are gender and smoking associated differences both in tumour types and clinical outcome. Squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) are more frequent among smoking men while females develop adenocarcinomas (ADCA). READ MORE

  2. 2. Lung cancer in males : an epidemiological study in northern Sweden with special regard to smoking and occupation

    Author : Lena Damber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; case-control study; epidemiology; lung cancer; occupational risk; factors; smoking; radon; cell types; validity;

    Abstract : In a case-control study comprising 589 cases of male lung cancer in northern Sweden longitudinal data concerning occupations, employments and smoking habits were collected by questionnaires.Pipe smoking was as common as cigarette smoking and gave very similar relative risk. 3. 3. MOLECULAR PROFILING OF UROTHELIAL CARCINOMA

    Author : David Lindgren; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytogenetik; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; TP53; FGFR3; gene expression profiling; microarray; bladder cancer; urothelial carcinoma; Genetik;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to molecularly characterize urothelial carcinoma (UC) at the transcriptional level using gene expression microarrays to improve the classification and pathogenetic understanding of this disease. In the first two studies (Articles I and II), gene expression profiling was used to study dysregulated transcriptional networks in a large cohort of UCs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lung Metastases - Diagnostic, Prognostic and Molecular Aspects with Focus on Colorectal Cancer

    Author : Halla Vidarsdottir; Förbättrad diagnostik och prognostik vid lungcancer och metastaser till lunga; []

    Abstract : In Sweden 4200 patients are diagnosed with lung cancer and 6500 patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) annually. The lungs are a common site for metastases. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a helpful aid in diagnostics of a pulmonary tumour. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hypoxic Adaptation and Arsenic Trioxide Treatment in Small Cell Lung Carcinoma

    Author : Matilda Thorén; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small cell lung carcinoma; arsenic trioxide; hypoxia; hypoxia-inducible factors; survival; proliferation; glycolysis; glutamine metabolism; MYC;

    Abstract : Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) is a very aggressive solid tumor and is often widely metastasized by the time of diagnosis. Despite good response to the initial chemotherapy, SCLC cells often develop multidrug resistance to conventionally used chemotherapeutic drugs, which cause almost all SCLC tumors to relapse. READ MORE
