  1. 1. Standardization of Islet Isolation and Transplantation Variables

    Author : Andrew S Friberg; Olle Korsgren; Daniel Brandhorst; Paul R. V. Johnson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islet isolation; standardization; enzyme; gradient separation; digital imaging analysis; DIA; transplantation outcome; islet transplantation; prediction; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Abstract : Currently, the transplantation of islets of Langerhans is a viable means to maintain control of blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia in defined populations with brittle type I diabetes mellitus or those requiring pancreatectomy. However, the process of islet isolation is highly variable and not all isolations result in islet numbers or quality suitable for transplantation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Caving mechanisms for a non-daylighting orebody

    Author : Sraj Umar Banda; Jonny Sjöberg; Björn Nilsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sublevel caving; numerical analysis; laser scanning; seismic data; large-scale structure; rock mass characterization; failure mechanism; discontinuum modeling; continuum modeling; caving analysis; voronoi modeling; bonded block model; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : The sublevel caving mining method is a mass production method with potentially very low operational costs. The success of this method is dependent on, among other factors, the cavability of the orebody and the overlying rock mass. READ MORE

  3. 3. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

    Author : Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Black-tailed godwit; Limosa limosa; nest site selection; nest predation; philopatry; risk analysis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population.The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development and testing of an m-Health platform to reduce post-operative penetrative sex in recipients of voluntary medical male circumcision

    Author : Yoesrie Toefy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: The widespread roll-out of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) has been accompanied by reports of VMMC recipients, particularly men who are married or cohabiting, resuming sexual intercourse before the recommended healing period of six weeks. This behaviour carries an increased risk of transmission of STIs and HIV, particularly for the female partner. READ MORE

  5. 5. Motor Imagery to Facilitate Sensorimotor Re-Learning (MOTIFS): Integrating Dynamic Motor Imagery in Current Treatment of Knee Injury

    Author : Niklas Cederström; Idrottsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee injury; Sport medicine; Exercise therapy; Sport psychology;

    Abstract : Traumatic knee injury is common in physical activity that includes jumping and cutting movements, and most commonly include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or meniscus injuries. Surgical or non-surgical intervention strategies may be chosen, but treatment will include a physical-therapist led physical training program. READ MORE
