  1. 1. Tissue tropism among group A streptococci - importance of bacteria associated proteolytic activity

    Author : Mikael Dag Svensson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cysteine protease; plasminogen; M protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; tissue tropism; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Group A streptococcus (GAS) is one of the most common of bacterial pathogens infecting humans, frequently causing throat and skin infection. Some GAS strains have surface-expressed virulence factors called M proteins that bind human plasminogen with high affinity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cholinesterase inhibitors in Alzheimer's disease : an experimental study on mechanisms of interatcion with muscarinic and nicotinic receptors and neuroprotection

    Author : Anne-Lie Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Alzheimer s disease Cholinesterase inhibitors Muscarinic receptors Nicotinic receptors Acetylcholine release Neuroprotection B-amyloid apolipoprotein E;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the mechanisms beyond the interaction of cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) with the cholinergic system in brain, with emphasis on their regulatory and mechanistic effects on subtypes of muscarinic and nicotinic receptors and neuroprotective properties. To investigate muscarinic receptor subtypes in frontal cortices of AD brains, the muscarinic antagonists pirenzepine, AF-DX 116, HHSiD, p-F-HHSiD and himbacine were used in receptor binding assays. 3. 3. Studies of bacterial surface proteins interacting with the immune system

    Author : Henrik G Svensson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; virologi; mykologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology;

    Abstract : Pathogenic bacteria express a wide array of surface proteins that interact with the environment. Many of these proteins are believed to be important for the virulence. This thesis deals with the binding of immunoglobulins (Ig) and complement regulating proteins to certain bacterial surface proteins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physiological effects of conditioned medium and passage number on Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 serum free cultures

    Author : Ingrid Svensson; Lena Häggström; Mats Martinelle; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9; insect cell cultures; conditioned medium; cell cycle phase dynamics; proteolytic activity; antibacterial activity; recombinant protein production; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to better understand the role of conditioned medium (CM) in Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 insect cell proliferation and recombinant protein production using the baculovirus expression system. CM was found to stimulate cell proliferation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermal Aspects and Electrolyte Mass Transport in Lithium-ion Batteries

    Author : Henrik Lundgren; Göran Lindbgergh; Mårten Behm; Ann Mari Svensson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy storage; Lithium-ion batteries; Electrolytes; Temperature; Modeling; Hybrid electric vehicle; Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Temperature is one of the most important parameters for the performance, safety, and aging of lithium-ion batteries and has been linked to all main barriers for widespread commercial success of electric vehicles.The aim of this thesis is to highlight the importance of temperature effects, as well as to provide engineering tools to study these.
