  1. 1. Gene Expression Patterns in a Rat Model of Human Endometrial Adenocarcinoma

    Author : Sandra Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rat; complex disease; Endometrial adenocarcinoma; gene expression profiling; cDNA microarrays; candidate genes; Molecular biology; Medical sciences;

    Abstract : Endometrial cancer develops from the endometrium of the uterus and is the most common pelvic malignancy diagnosed in women in the western society. Similar to all cancer diseases, endometrial cancer is a disorder that results from complex patterns of genetic and epigenetic alterations involved in the malignant transformation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Detection and assessment of pain in dementia care practice : Registered nurses’ and certified nursing assistants’ experiences

    Author : Christina Karlsson; Birgitta Sidenvall; Marie Ernsth-Bravell; Eva Brink; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abbey Pain Scale-SWE; cognitive impairment; dementia; municipal elderly care; observational behavioural pain assessment scales; pain assessment; person-centred care;

    Abstract : Aim: The overall aim of the thesis was to explore and describe registered nurses’ (RNs) and certified nursing assistants’ (CNAs) experiences of detection and assessment of pain in older people with cognitive impairment and dementia. A further aim was to evaluate the Abbey Pain Scale-SWE (APS-SWE) in dementia care practice. READ MORE

  3. 3. Health economics and its measures in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Johan Karlsson; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cost-utility analysis; Cost-of-illness; Quality of life; EuroQol 5-Dimensions; Antirheumatic agents; TNF inhibition; Outcome assessment; Disease activity; Disability; Health economics; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : Objectives: To study: (I) the impact on cost-utility analyses of applying different national EuroQol 5-Dimensions (EQ-5D) preference sets; (II and III) whether, in methotrexate-refractory, early rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the addition of infliximab results in superior health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and may be considered cost-effective, as compared to adding sulfasalazine and hydroxychloroquine; (IV) how costs relate to disability (measured by the health-assessment questionnaire, HAQ), disease activity (28-joint disease activity score, DAS28) and HRQoL (EQ-5D) in RA. Methods: In the observational SSATG register, one-year quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) accumulation of two interventions was compared according to the UK, US, or Danish EQ-5D preference sets. 4. 4. Surface Reactivity and Electronic Structure of Metal Oxides

    Author : Anneli Önsten; Ulf Karlsson; Anne Borg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oxides; surfaces; defects; cuprous oxide; zinc oxide; magnetite; water; OH; sulfur dioxide; photoelectron spectroscopy; scanning tunneling microscopy; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : The foci of this thesis are the metal oxides Cu2O, ZnO and Fe3O4 and their interaction with water and sulfur dioxide (SO2). The intention is to study SO2-induced atmospheric corrosion on a molecular level. All studies are based on photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements.
