  1. 1. Interactions between streptococcal M proteins and human plasma proteins

    Author : Charlotta Sandin; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infektioner; Infections; innate immunity; Streptococcus pyogenes; phagocytosis resistance;

    Abstract : Streptococcus pyogenes is a common human pathogen, which causes a variety of diseases. A major virulence factor of S. pyogenes is the surface-associated M protein, which mediates resistance to phagocytosis. Several studies indicate that M proteins inhibit complement deposition and thereby phagocytosis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interactions between Streptococcus pyogenes and the human immune system, with special reference to C4b-binding protein

    Author : Anette Thern; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; Phagocytosis; M-proteins; M-like proteins; Bovine C4b-binding protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; Human C4b-binding protein; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The ability of many pathogenic microorganisms to cause infection is dependent on their ability to evade attack by the complement system of the host. One mechanism by which microorganisms may avoid complement attack is to bind complement inhibitory molecules present in the host. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protein Interactions: Electrostatics and Ligand Binding

    Author : Ingemar André; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; secondary structure formation; protein GB1; pKa values; pH stability; NMR; electrostatic interactions; M proteins; calbindin D9k; calcium binding; cooperativity; calmodulin; calbindin D28k;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with Ca2+ binding to proteins, electrostatic interactions in and between proteins as well as inter- and intramolecular interactions. A computer program was developed to determine Ca2+ binding constants from experimental titration data of proteins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Temperature-dependent structure and function of group A streptococcal M proteins

    Author : Tommy Cedervall; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; plasma protein; fibrinogen; temperature; hydrophobicity; coiled-coil; Ig-binding; M protein; group A streptococcus; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Temperature-dependent structure and function of group A streptococcal M proteins.This thesis describes the temperature-dependent structure of the members in the group A streptococcal M protein family. M proteins are cell-surface proteins that are important for the bacterial virulence and bind to a diverse set of human plasma proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on streptococcal M proteins. Interactions with IgA and human complement regulators

    Author : Eskil Johnsson; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; antigenic variation; factor H; C4b-binding protein; Fc-receptor; IgA; Streptococcus pyogenes; M protein; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; virology; mycology; bacteriology;

    Abstract : The human pathogenic bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus) expresses several different virulence factors. Of these, the M protein is regarded as one of the most important, because it confers resistance to phagocytosis, allowing the bacterium to multiply in blood. READ MORE
