1. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces
Abstract : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 2. The EBV-HIV interrelationship and the value of EBV-DNA analysis
Abstract : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infects the vast majority of humans and resides latently in B-cells. This virus carries genes that can induce and sustain mature B cell growth. EBV is associated with a wide range of B-cell lymphomas including Burkitt lymphoma and non Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infected patients. READ MORE

3. Pharmacometric Models to Improve Treatment of Tuberculosis
Abstract : Tuberculosis (TB) is the world’s most deadly infectious disease and causes enormous public health problems. The comorbidity with HIV and the rise of multidrug-resistant TB strains impede successful therapy through drug-drug interactions and the lack of efficient second-line treatments. READ MORE

4. Methodology for Handling Missing Data in Nonlinear Mixed Effects Modelling
Abstract : To obtain a better understanding of the pharmacokinetic and/or pharmacodynamic characteristics of an investigated treatment, clinical data is often analysed with nonlinear mixed effects modelling. The developed models can be used to design future clinical trials or to guide individualised drug treatment. READ MORE

5. Nanocomposite films for corrosion protection
Abstract : This thesis describes technical and scientific aspects of new types of composite films/coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel, composite films with nanometer thickness consisting of mussel adhesive protein (Mefp‐1) and ceria nanoparticles, and polymeric composite coatings with micrometre thickness consisting of conducting polymer and ceria nanoparticles in a UV‐curing polyester acrylate (PEA) resin. The influence of microstructure on corrosion behaviour was studied for a Fe‐Cr‐V‐N alloy containing micro‐sized nitrides with different chemical composition spread in martensitic alloy matrix.
