  1. 1. Sludge from pulp and paper mills for biogas production : Strategies to improve energy performance in wastewater treatment and sludge management

    Author : Alina Hagelqvist; Thomas Nilsson; Karin M. Granström; Bengt Månsson; Bo Mattiasson; Thomas Welander; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anaerobic digestion; pulp and paper mill sludge; methane production; energy efficient sludge management; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The production of pulp and paper is associated with the generation of large quantities of wastewater that has to be purified to avoid severe pollution of the environment. Wastewater purification in pulp and paper mills combines sedimentation, biological treatment, chemical precipitation, flotation and anaerobic treatment, and the specific combination of techniques is determined by the local conditions. Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Charcot’s disease, motor neuron disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a deadly, adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons, resulting in evolving paresis of the linked muscles. ALS is defined by classical features of the disease, but may present as a wide spectrum of phenotypes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transforming growth factor a in human hematopoietic cells

    Author : Thomas M. Walz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : TGF-a, transforming growth factor a, is a potent growth factor belonging to the family of EGF (epidermal growth factor) -related proteins. Binding to the same receptor as EGF it has a ubiquitous repertoire of target cells, including, mesenchymal, epithelial and neuronal cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. An experimental investigation of disturbance growth in boundary layer flows

    Author : Thomas Kurian; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Jens H. M. Fransson; Edward B. White; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the early stages of transition to turbulence in two different baseflows, namely the Falkner-Skan-Cooke boundary layer (FSC) and the asymptotic suction boundary layer (ASBL). Grid-generated turbulence is studied in order to characterise the isotropy levels, free-stream turbulence levels and characteristic length scales that will be present in the receptivity study. 5. 5. A new method q-calculus

    Author : Thomas Ernst; Hari M. Srivastava; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Mathematics; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : In q-calculus we are looking for q-analogues of mathematical objects, which have the original object as limits when q tends to 1. q-Calculus has wide-ranging applications in analytic number theory and theoretical physics. The main topic of the thesis is the invention of the tilde operator and the renaissance of the q-addition. READ MORE
