  1. 6. On inferior alveolar nerve function after sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible

    Author : Anders Westermark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : mandibular nerve; neurosensory disturbance; sagittal split osteotomy;

    Abstract : Osteotomies of the mandible are designed to adjust improper jaw positions. While vertical ramus osteotomy can be used for mandibular setback but not for mandibular advancement, sagittal split osteotomy can be used to move the lower jaw in both directions and this surgical technique also permits mobility of the lower jaw immediately after surgery. 2. 7. Single crystal sapphire dental implants : experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Bahman Fartash; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : edentulous mandible; implantology; sapphire dental implants; overdenture; long-term follow-up; radiography; osseointegration; peri-implant mucosa; corrosion; cell culture; animal experiments; light microscopy; scanning electron microscopy; histometri;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to evaluate single synthetic sapphire crystals as dental implants, with special reference to correlation of clinical and in vitro/in vivo methods of research. The laboratory studies confirmed chemical stability. READ MORE

  3. 8. Effects of antiresorptive agents on inflammation and bone regeneration in different osseous sites - experimental and clinical studies

    Abstract : The biological mechanisms involved in bone regeneration in osteoporotic bone and the effect of antiresorptive drugs in relation to surgically inserted biomaterials are not fully understood. Improved osseointegration of titanium implants but also adverse effects of antiresorptive therapies, such as osteonecrotic jaw have been described in the literature. READ MORE

  4. 9. Teratogenic Predisposition in Diabetic Rat Pregnancy

    Author : Andreas Ejdesjö; Ulf J Eriksson; Parri Wentzel; Niklas Nordquist; Gernot Desoye; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; malformations; teratogenic; advanced glycation end products; AGE; RAGE; oxidative stress; ROS; gene expression; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Pre-gestational diabetes increases the risk of congenital malformation in the offspring and both morbidity and mortality in the diabetic mother and her offspring. During pregnancy, high glucose levels act as a teratogen through several cellular and biochemical pathways and increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has a central role in diabetic embryopathy.
