  1. 16. Mechanisms of stretch-induced growth and contractile differentiation in vascular smooth muscle

    Author : Asad Zeidan; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; SM22a; ERK1 2; caveolae; stretch; Smooth muscle; differentiation;

    Abstract : Vascular smooth muscle can adapt to increased intraluminal pressure by remodelling and hypertrophy, as seen in hypertension. The molecular mechanisms responsible for this are still incompletely characterized. READ MORE

  2. 17. Molecular Pharmacology and Structure Function Modelling of the Leukotriene B4 Receptor BLT1

    Author : Alan Sabirsh; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Pharmacological sciences; fluidity; redox; chemotaxis; luciferase; calcium; ligand binding; point mutation; modelling; antibody; BLT1; leukotriene; pharmacology; GPCR; G-protein; receptor;

    Abstract : Leukotrienes are membrane derived bioactive lipids that play an important role in immune responses by initiating and maintaining the inflammatory responses. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) released at the site of an inflammatory response attracts, activates and prolongs the life of leukocytes and lymphocytes. READ MORE

  3. 18. TNFalpha expression in monocytes/macrophages

    Author : Karolina Andersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; Protein kinase; Macrophage; TNF;

    Abstract : The recognition of microbes or microbial products by leukocytes is a key event in innate immunity. Binding of microbial products to cell surface receptors on phagocytes induce a response that includes the production of inflammatory mediators. One such mediator is the cytokine tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF). READ MORE

  4. 19. The role of PKC in neuronal differentiation and in regulation of the actin cytoskeleton during neurite outgrowth

    Author : Ulrika Trollér; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Rho-family; actin cytoskeleton; neurite; differentiation; PKC; regulatory domain; Genetics;

    Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases subgrouped into classical (α, βI, βII, γ), novel (δ, ε, η, θ) and atypical (ζ, ι/λ) isoforms. PKC can be activated by phorbol esters, and prolonged treatment of neuroblastoma cells has been shown to induce neuronal differentiation with neurite outgrowth and increased expression of neuronal genes. 5. 20. Mechanisms of insulin signaling and the role of caveolae

    Author : Santiago Parpal; Pam Fredman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Insulin regulates metabolic as well as mitogenic processes in target cells, involving a large number of mediators of signal transduction. In its role as a growth factor, insulin stimulates cell growth, in a process we demonstrate requires the participation of the Raf-1 kinase. READ MORE
